Synthia's call for battle works, though not as well as she would have liked, the tears dry up however, as the battle continues to move forward, her leadership and minor magical abilities help to edge in over the massive swarm of monsters. Managing to keep the women safe from the monsters they deal another decent blow to the enemy forces.

It is at this time that the entire sky goes orange. Which is odd, as it was nowhere near time for the sun to go down. Looking behind her, she sees a massive wall of fire, taller than the trees, passing out of her sight in both directions. It slowly starts to move forward, amazing not scorching the land.

"That's our signal!" yells Synthia over the din. "Draw the fiends near to the fire, but don't engage them! Let the fire do the work, just make sure they follow you! Woman riders, mingle again with the men. Make them confused and following any horse that they can see!"

The fight would be won so long as they could continue to run circles around the monsters and keep them occupied until the fire was nearly upon them. Synthia looks at the blaze to gauge how long she would have to keep the monsters occupied before ordering her riders to sprint their horses out of the path of the blaze.

The riders follow her commands well, leading the monsters astray as some of the girls take pot shots with their bows, managing to drop quite a few. Synthia watches as the fire moves forward, not super slowly, but it might still be a minute or two before it arrives. She feels as though she should be feeling the heat from it, but the enchantment Max cast earlier seems to be helping the entire group resist the effects.

Synthia sees that the outriders have managed to mop up a fair few enemies with their shots. They might be able to overrun this bunch of monsters and thus be able to get closer to a greater part of the horde and have it enveloped in the blaze.

Pointing with her sword at the weakness in the enemy line, Synthia yells a rallying cry.

"To me! Charge with me!" her sword blazed and the rescued girl behind her notched an arrow and readied it as the two of them swooped in with a company of riders behind them to break the last remnants of this line.

The group, already high on morale from the last few minutes of the skirmish, is easily able to follow through on Synthia's plan, managing to defeat the last set of the monsters.

Soon after the last one is put down, the group manages to stay on guard, wary of any others that might have made their way for an ambush, but after a few moments, it seems safe, as some start to comfort the women who'd been captured at the start of the battle.

Synthia murmurs a few words of encouragement to the girl sitting behind her, then gathers the riders around her.

"Riders, the blaze will halt the enemy. They will have to run backwards and far out of their intended path to avoid the blaze. Let us ride swiftly now, and regroup at the wizard's outpost. From there we will decide our next move and tend to those who were wounded and assaulted. Ride with me now! Yah!"

She kicks her horse into a gallop and leads the outriders north around the oncoming wall of fire, and then quickly south and west until they reach the place where Max had first cast his spell.

Synthia takes a better look at the wall, finding she couldn't actually see the end of it.

Though luckily for her, she spotted something in the wall which looked very much like a doorway. So, herding her team through that, they made their way to the outpost Max had set up.

She found him sort of laying down, he looked very fatigued, likely from casting such a large spell.

"Good job Max," Synthia said, coming to sit by the old mage after she made sure that the assaulted girls were being tended to.

"The spell worked, the army will have to scatter and retreat to avoid burning to a crisp. It'll give us enough time to prepare a better defense."

Max chuckles weakly. "Heh, I hope so. Though it'd be nice if most of them got caught up in it." he tries to sit up, but finds himself too weak at the moment. "Bit more effort than I thought I could put, into that spell." he smiled, also weakly.

"But the spell should delay them for at least a day, even if it doesn't engulf all of them."

She patted Max on the shoulder gently. "You have our deepest gratitude for what you've done so far. Is there anything we can do for you to help you recover?"

"I just need some time to rest, though I guess tea does help a bit." he says, chuckling. "But I'll be fine after a nap, I think."

"What is next in your plan?" he asks.

Synthia briefly removes her hat and brushes her long purple hair back, wiping away some perspiration from the long ride.

"Plan? ah, well, probably more harrying tactics. We'll send out some scouts to see how much your spell slowed the army down and determine what can and should be done from there... for now, I just intend to take a bath."

She pointed over in the direction of the nearby brook.

"After that I'll have the company prepare some food, maybe get a few of the men to hunt some rabbits for a stew, and we'll work on getting you some tea. Until then, you just rest up, okay?"

Nodding to the old wizard, Synthia makes her way back to the company and gives orders for a hunting and gathering party to be formed while others should set up to prepare a meal. The girls who were recovering were exempt from any physical labor for the rest of the day and Synthia made sure to go to each of them personally and have a words with them, doing what she could to alleviate any trauma they were going through. When finally she was done with that, she wandered off to the brook to take a quick bath privately.

Synthia handed out her orders, the group quickly obeying, the scout party heading off towards the blaze.

Her own quick bath was a pleasant enough thing, as her thoughts drifted to Gerald. But, she couldn't focus on him right now, she was leading a war party after all.

Finishing her bath and getting dressed, she headed inside the night, getting a fitful sleep as she remembered the battle earlier today, but it was eased as she remembered how she was able to help the girls who'd been captured, if only briefly.

Waking up the next morning to the first light, Synthia was a little bit surprised to find Gerald laying next to her, it seems he must have arrived during the night.

Synthia smiled widely and hugged her big lump of a husband, kissing him on his cheek as he slept, though if he woke he would find her staring lovingly at him.

He must have ridden far and fast, but I wonder if any others have come with him to help defend the town? And what has gotten these monsters so riled up in the first place? We still don't have a solid answer for that. Perhaps Gerald and I could find one... but I think we'll have a chat about that with Max first, before anything's decided.

Synthia rolled from Gerald's side and prepared herself for the day's trials, looking about her to see who else was active in the camp.

Gerald wakes up when Synthia kisses him, pulling her close into a tight hug. Getting up with her, he yawned a little bit before speaking.

"Our son is safe at my parent's, they'll take care of him until we return." he says first, knowing Synthia would like that piece of information. "I've brought some extra riders with me, and I've caught wind there's a large contingent of soldiers on the move, who plan to intersect the path of the monsters."

"That's all wonderful news, love," Synthia said as she embraced him and settled into his arms. "We've managed to delay the monster's approach as we hoped, mostly in part to the skills of the wizard, Max, whom I should introduce you to if you haven't met him."

Briefly Synthia filled Gerald in on the movements of the last two days and the skirmish with the outlying monsters and the coming of the wall of fire.

"I have missed you so," she said. "Except for during the heat of battle and looking after the girls, there has been rarely a moment I haven't thought of you or Bryndan." She brushed his cheek and planted several more kisses on his lips, wondering idly if he might take them further and with a sudden urge take her to some remote place and have his way with her.

It might be a bit impractical, given the gravity of the situation they were all in, but not out of line with Gerald. He was aware of her sexual appetite and ease about being ordered into positions and borderline exhibitionist situations.

"Truly? That is impressive then, we'd expected them to be on the edge of the city by now." Gerald seemed actually surprised at the news. Gerald starts to slowly get up, reluctant to let Synthia out of his arms as well as to move away from the kisses she was showering upon him.

He sits up finally, stifling a yawn. "Well then, I guess I should meet this Max, then, shouldn't I?"

Synthia forced herself to abandon her fantasies for the moment, as it appeared Gerald wasn't feeling randy. Instead she stood up with him and brushed herself off. Baths in forest streams were good enough to wash the sweat away, but she still only had one pair of clothes on this brief campaign and the battle they had had yesterday had been dirty work, plus she'd been sleeping in a hastily constructed structure in the middle of the woods made for practical purposes, not with much in the line of toiletries.

In short, Synthia longed for a steaming bath, perhaps in a tub big enough for Gerald as well, and she could lie back and let him wash her body all over, then have sex with her and then wash her again for good measure.

Synthia shook her head and blinked. Her fantasies were not going away without a fight it seemed.

"Yes, best find Max," she agreed. "He shouldn't be too far."

So saying she went out in search of the old wizard.

Ma is easily found, standing in the courtyard and staring off into the distance. He seems to be a bit busy, so the pair waits until he's finished, before he seemingly snaps back to reality.

He doesn't quite notice the pair yet, seemingly muttering to himself, his face torn between looking solemn and looking hopeful.

"Are we disturbing your deep contemplations, Max?" Synthia smiled as she entered the room. "We could come back at a more appropriate time if you wished? I only wished to introduce you to my husband, Gerald. And perhaps discuss the news that he brings."
