Re: Hate Thread
Seems like they're taking feedback and having massive player testing games for tweaking. It looks like it'll be a throwback edition. I'm starting to hate this idea less.
YAY!!!!! D&D that isn't a knockoff of WoW? That goes in the love thread, not hate!
I do appreciate that 4th is a hell of alot easier on new players and the DM, but it lost alot of the things that made me enjoy D&D's combat and character creation systems in the first place. Though, not running out of spells with a mage is kind of nice (especially if you're like me and horde them up like there's going to be something particularly awful right around the next corner[hint, it's always a goddamn troll and you've used up all your fire spells] ) it also takes a large amount of the stratagey away from being a spell caster.
*cough* Pathfinder much? *cough cough*
Not having gotten into 4E, I can't say that it makes me particularly happy or particularly not, but from an overall standpoint, it makes me grumpy. Why? Because 2nd edition was out for *decades* before they kicked up to 3rd. Then they did that whole 3.5 thing, which, if you think about it, makes *some* sense. And then, if I have my dates right, not even 10 years later, they're coming out with 4th edition. Then there was that whole Red Box thing. And now, less than 5 years later, they're talking about rebooting it AGAIN.
I can see it from their standpoint. If people don't like the system, they're not going to buy it, which means they're not going to make money. But from an actual gamer standpoint, you mean I just bought all of these books and now you want me to buy MORE? WTF?! Though I suppose the people that would be buying 5th edition aren't likely to have invested in 4th, so there's that going for them, but still...Ugh.
Also, I hate knowing that I'm probably going to be getting into a fight with my friend tonight because I'm going to be having a marathon gaming session with someone other than her tomorrow. *le sigh*
