Re: Games Discussion Thread

I'm sure that it'd take short of claims that the newest Playstation will require virgin sacrifices for bootup to really stop the Xbox backlash.
Unless they start pulling the same kind of shit. Also, Xbox one isn't that terrible a name. Too many people are getting hung up on the name when there's plenty more to bitch about.

As to the hackers. Still fucking hate them. Once more they roll around giggle about how they're sticking it to 'the man', while fucking around with the common people. That's not a fucking hero, that's a criminal who gives zero shits about anybody except his own amusement, and is frankly a waste of oxygen.

Seriously. How is giving out common people's information to the internet, which as we all know is just filled with law abiding citizens who wouldn't dare use someone's stolen financial information to drive them up a few pennies, sticking it to the man other than creating a PR nightmare. They'll recover so easily, but the people who are struggling day to day to make ends meet and just want to relax with some video games are suddenly facing money loss they can't afford. That's like if Robin Hood stole from the poor and showed it off to the rich. Not heroic, not good, not rebellious. Just scum.

How fucking dare he call anything else a pest to humanity. Hypocritical fucking dipshit.

Technically it's news, but since it's gaming news I'll put it here instead of the news thread

"Microsoft Blames Gaming Media For Xbox One Consumer Rage"

"It's not our fault nobody wants our 1984 box. The media is against us!"

Re: Games Discussion Thread

It seems their current defense is that the critics are operating on incomplete information. Which is hilarious, because the only information anyone has on the matter is what Microsoft gives them.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

However, at the same time it's not like gamers jump to immediate conclusions and enjoy backlashing against companies ever. And the system is indeed still a year out, meanwhile I've not heard any backlash against Sony for the almost complete lack of information about how their new system is going to work. People have it in their heads that Microsoft is now the main evil company, and are letting EA and Activision have a break from the cries of devil worship.

I'm still on the fence about the console itself personally. I'm waiting for more information, like I have been from the start. Is this all back peddling due to backlash? Maybe, better early than at release, but I'm not entirely convinced it is. As was stated in the linked article, game journalism does not always have the interests of the community at heart. I find it's been going downhill for the past few years even.

Still, I do have to admit that Microsoft teased too much, with too little clarification, which just created this entire PR nightmare. The fact that people are poking at the name (which actually makes sense to be considering that they're trying to make an all in one entertainment platform for gaming, television, movies, and other various apps for your living room) kind of tells me that people are just looking for the slightest of excuses for this fall as hard on its face as possible.

Why? So Indie developers get more money and recognition? So that gaming goes back to the days of being the unpopular hobby and the hipsters get to have it all to themselves again? That the PC may rise above and conquer all because it is the one true gaming platform and all those who dare look upon anything else are a bunch of heathens?

I personally believe there's a lot more here hiding under the hood than a simple PR blunder by Microsoft. Part of this is simply elitism of the gaming community once more rearing its head, not all of it for sure, but comments such as "no one want's our box from 1984" surely make it seem that way, when the technology within this box that is significantly glossier and even smoother than the dull grays and matte blacks of the 80's with their sharp edges.

There are a lot of issues within the gaming industry, from the actions of money grubbing publishers, lying developers, and even to the attitudes of gamers themselves. Can anyone honestly say they're even tried giving Microsoft a chance here? Or was everyone secretly hoping something like this would happen so they could leap in?

I'll settle for it being treated equally to the console market.

*Sigh*

I guess you've never read the world-renowned book that happens to be titled 1984. To surmise, it's about a fictitious time in which a totalitarian dictatorship has taken over the world, and instils order by means of severely inhumane monitoring tactics, not the least of them being putting cameras in every corner of your home to see what you're doing. (This, by the by, is also where the whole Big Brother Tv stuff comes from, because the guy supposedly in charge of the whole operation was referred to simply as 'Big Brother'.)

Calling it a box from 1984 isn't an insult to its aesthetics or processing power, it's an insult to its assumed draconian surveillance.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

It's less somuch the factor that Microsoft didn't say anything that made the console viable (at the very least quoting hardware specs that match the PS4's quoted specs,) it's more the factor that, misquoted or not, people don't like paying for games they bought TWICE.

Damage control notwithstanding, it'll take a few days for the things to get dusted off. Only then can we really tell what's going on.

And THAT. Is what's actually terrible both on the media side and on the game developer/console hardware designer side.

So I missed the Orwell reference. Though I don't know if the original comment was indeed an Orwell reference. Good defense though Host.

I do fail to understand why anyone would think of privacy invasion as a positive feature. I mean, unless you're into that kind of thing.

After the E3 reveals, I find this image explains things rather well...

Re: Games Discussion Thread

So what games were announced for the PS4? I missed the showcase what with having to sleep, and all that's appeared on my tumblr dash is the PS4 kicking the shit out of the XBox One and Kingdom Hearts 3.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Let me find my cousin's myriad of posts...may or may not be relevant to your interests, but this is at least what she loaded up.

KH3 was one of them.

(One of the ones that peaked my interest.)

(Note, if you've played the first two games, don't watch the IGN rewind theater. I wanted to smack those guys.)

(Kept waiting for the twist in this one and wasn't completely disappointed.)
(Despite what the title was typed in as on youtube.)

(And thanks to the cuddlebuddy, I chuckled when I saw the sign on the gate.)

Plenty more that link from the ones that I've put forth here, so have fun, go nuts, and feel free to ad on to the list of "Yeah, I'll be getting that."

They're actually moving the series on with a proper number?

MARK IT ON THE CALENDER!

With that said though, even the MMOs are getting into the console wars. Warframe and Planetside 2 have also announced they'll be going F2P on the PSN for Playstation 4, and World of Tanks (and assuming World of Warplanes) will be showing up on XBone's Live Arcade.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

something I never expected to see was Mirror's Edge 2 announced. No release date yet, but confirmed for PS4 off the list i was shown, most likely everything else as well, given how the first one wasn't exclusive. I was told the first didnt sell enough to warrant the trilogy they originally wanted, I'm kind of excited to see a second one.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

How many of those titles are PS4 exclusives though Copper? Cause I checked Dragon Age III, and it's gonna be on Xbox One, and 360 as well as PS3.

I've not been paying much attention to E3 save for some game trailers, but honestly when the time comes, I don't think the Xbox One is going to flounder and fluster as bad as people are claiming.
