Re: Games Discussion Thread

is the epitome of want. All I have to do for it is to kill a few seraph guardians and best Big Game Hunt. That can't be too difficult, right?

Right?
Ohmygod, WAAANT! *grabbyhands*

Do you play on PC or XBox, Rule? I'm on XBox, and looking for a reason to start playing again.

My copy of Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm arrived early. Not that it'd do me any good. I can't even install it yet.

As much as I'm still on the fence if I'll even grab HotS yet, I am so, so jealous.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I've been loving the new Tomb Raider reboot. I beat it in roughly... 8-10 hours or so on Normal combat difficulty. I found the game was a bit too easy much of the time (with the exception of a handful of fights), but it does a good job of making it feel like it's not easy much of the time. It comes across as rather intense.

The story starts to get a bit predictable, but it's execution was great. And I love the character progression of Lara. It was a good origin story, and I really want to see more with this more grounded version of the character.

I'm really happy I got the game, plan on doing another run through of it.

Oh hey, you bought Starcraft 2 HotS on DVD so you don't have to download it with your slow-ass internet?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! We're all suckers then! The game is STILL downloaded, even if you have the DVD! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *breaks down and cries*

I still have to wait 12 hours for release. You're totally cheating, living all the way over there :p

Oh Blizzard... how I used to love thee

I blame Activision. I knew that was bad news for gamers when Blizzard was bought out.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Sheer speculation, but:

Last year, Blizzard released Diablo 3 to a crowd that managed to crash both the Diablo and Warcraft due to sheer numbers. Obviously a failing of always online DRM, but written off to some degree as a technical issue and easily solved. This year something is going on with SimCity that's got the crowd riled, and I'm not sure what. What I do know is that in order to fix it EA(?) had to issue a patch that cut features from the game, which made people angrier.

What are the odds that these are the death throes of always-online DRM? That's two glaring faults that have punished the consumers while leaving pirates apparently unaffected.

But the piracy! You can't stop the piracy (and have a convient way of recording your user's info stealthily, either benign or malevolent) without online DRM!!!

I don't see DRM going from the hardcore devs that use it (EA especially) but I already know some other devs will probably get more creative with anti-piracy, instead of punishing the customers.

With HotS releasing soonish (if not already) I am almost expecting yet another online server fiasco to appear.

Been playing Dead Island. Can't find that last undiscovered location (71/72). Irritating.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I am currently missing no less than three of my games. The number may be higher. Nobody knows what happened to them, and I'm sure I didn't lend them out. I'm beginning to get upset.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Any folks on here played Nier? Got some questions about the game's story and I've been trying to find them out for myself, but so far, playthroughs haven't been helpful and knowing where to start looking might be good.

My understanding of it is that it's a game about a gruff manly man who is afflicted by a terrible disease that periodically turns him into a bishounen.

Actually, they did two releases of the game, one with the older Nier and one with a younger. I'm actually trying to find out more about the other party members.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I've only gotten so far into the campaign of Heart of the Swarm, and already I'm loving it, especially the surprising amount of character development. The rest of this is in spoilers due to the game only been out for a few days and all.

Simply put, besides the Terran characters- which are very swiftly removed from the story from a protagonist's light- there is still plenty of characters to interact with. Firstly, Kerrigan herself is given a huge boost in character development via the prologue's events, going from wanting to forget her situation as the Queen of Blades to essentially being pissed off enough to go back to old habits, though she does seem to reduce the effectiveness of her ebilness (or at least, the barbarities that her broods have in mentality).

Then there's Abathur, your evolution master for the brood. Abathur has existed since the early days of the Swarm under the Overmind, then under Kerrigan, then back under our new tsundre Kerrigan. His mindset seems entirely locked on efficiency, and it's obvious that New Kerrigan is a bit surprised and probably upset at some of his actions to his own kind. Even still, while they argue a bit on some points, he's still needed by Kerrigan.

Kerrigan even has her own adjutant, a infested known as Izsha. She acts as Kerrigan's major advisory, although her robotic form of mind does seem to be a tad odd in comparison to the other characters of the setting. I'm not sure she's all she says she is, however, especially as she has many of old Kerrigan's memories stuffed in her.

Either way, I am curious how the plot goes, so probably will be stuck in HotS for the next few weeks :3

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I take a break from nomming the galaxy to invite you all to defend it!

has 'soft-launched' it's Open Beta with Update 7, added a whole bunch of goodies to the game, a new environment, revamped stealth to make it a viable alternative, added new combat mechanics, redone mods to a card-based system, the Lato Vandal for old-timers (similar to the elusive Braton Vandal from the Open Beta Weekend), new warframes, a buddy for your assault runs, tweaks to chat, and basically a hell of a lot more then what I can list off here.

for those that want em, and I posted the site link for those who want to get to get their space ninja on earlier.

Careful Tenno, there are Grineer marines all over.
