Re: Games Discussion Thread

I really wish i could find a game on my 3ds that would make me giggle with joyful glee. Everything I've bought for it lately has just been meh. Super mario 3d land looked great, but meh. Kinda a mediocre adventure. New super mario bros 2...Well...its a new game, but the only new thing added is a addiction to coins...crap. I'm not trying to sound jaded, but im honestly struggling to find a good title that KEEPS my attention. Japan, give us Monster Hunter 3g dammit, so i have a reason to play my 3ds for 300+ hours.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Some of you here may have noted my love for the series of games that sprung out of Total Annihilation, which technicaly is only supreme commander but thats irrelivant. Today on kickstarter i was linked to the latest incarnation of the concept of epic strategy by these people (for some strange reason this very large niche market is only catered to by one group of people over the past 15 years).

I present to you (creative naming scheme), the only RTS where you can wage war across a planet with hundreds or units only to literaly flee to the solar systems asteroid belt when things start going bad. And then apparently just rain those asteroids down on your now defensless foes.

Unfortunantly the game is only tentative now but its half way through on so it will probably reach production.

Asteroid Rain. Something tells me the pacifists didn't get their votes heard in that game's universe.

As far as i can tell the story literaly has had all of mankind dye out, with only their autonomous war engine living on. The simplest of plots they are literaly fighting over nothing.

Looks like an amazing game that I would play to death, so I've donated to it. The asteroid attack had me laughing like a little child.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Just realised that I should actually post something here in response.

I might be more excited about this Planeatry Anhilation game than any other in a long time right now. I keep checking the Kickstarter to see how much it's gained during the day and can't stop wildly waving my mouse around the screen each time I do so. The wait and speculation is going to be a killer.

I keep double taking at the 40 players part in particular.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

That is an incredibly helpful list. That thing will save gigabytes worth of aggressive forum speculative arguments. Why don't all devs do this? The MWO community is a boiling pot of non stop repetitive debates about speculative subjects the devs have very likely already made decisions on or already coded. Something like this would save a lot of hassle.

And so I read some other developer interviews and such. One part hinted at being able to load up your moon with guns, troops and engines, then fly it off into new orbits and have a battle with the native moon.

Happy face.

That's put together by the fans not the staff. Regardless its an unprecidented amount of information about a game that is still tentative.

So true, I've stopped going to the forum for anything other than technical information, which I've alread got bookmarked, because the rest is pretty much wothless (not lacking in merit however) opinions.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Just pre-ordered War of the Roses on steam. Should be an interesting title. I've always wanted to see some kind of third/first person medieval war game, and I do enjoy me some Mount and Blade, so should be fun.

Edit: Apparantly the pre-purchase gives me access to the beta, which makes sense but I didn't know before hand. Anyway, gave it a run and my initial impression is that they have a lot of work on making the game run smoothly. There's some really cool stuff here, but I find that it's just too stiff and rigid as it is right now. Attacks entirely miss because movement animations are laggy, it's hard to aim when the scroll speed is sporadic. Hopefully this gets smoothed out for the final release, cause as is, I don't know if I could play it.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Dark Souls came out for the PC today. I'm not very far in yet (beat it at my friend's place), but I can safely say that they did a piss poor job in porting it. The control scheme is FUBAR, and I can't use my gamepad to play it, either.

No, seriously. U and H are the attack keys. This is how bad the port is.

Oh, I can re-map the keys in the game. The problem is that they're using almost the entire god damn keyboard. Walking with WASD is fine and dandy, but controlling the camera with IJKL? Focussing on an enemy with O? It's all convoluted.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

No mouse support? That's retarded, esp without gamepad support, they might as well have not even bothered porting it to the PC.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Wait, no mouse support? That's more of a Mechwarrior move, not a action-stlye game, specially for PC O_O

No, there is mouse support, though those buttons I can't remap. But I wouldn't recommend using the mouse for options and inventory and such, as every movement of the mouse also moves the camera. After my initial wave of frustration, things have gotten... bearable, especially since I moved the focus button. I still can't use any of the number keys, though. That would've made things easier.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Okay, so I'm pretty sure at least a few of us are interested in Firaxis' X-COM. Just today, I found out the dev guys did a livestream of about an hour's worth of gameplay footage today. Sadly, I missed it. Luckily, it's recorded!

is the video on their twitch.tv whatsit, and I've basically just started.

For reasons I do not know they have about four minutes of the 2K logo and some music before anything at all happens. 3:53-ish or cuts to them sitting around in some office room whatsit.

On an unrelated note, . I just was alerted to it's existence via the Dorf Fort Forum, and it seems to be some kind of Metro 2033/Fallout sorta dealy - isometric turn-based style stuff.

Seems to be currently in Alpha, with a demo.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

So apparently Guild Wars 2 came out today. Before I go out and get it though, I was wondering if anyone else will be getting it. Seems like the kind of game to not play alone.
