Re: Games Discussion Thread

Well I say grudge, it's more of a unrequited rivalry he has with Bartz. And it's from after he was banished to the Rift, he was determined to track Bartz down to prove who's the strongest swordsman once he had escaped. He wasn't actually a warrior summoned to Cosmos' and Chaos' world, he stumbled upon it by accident as he travelled through dimensions.
Which should also be noted why, by what I read, he's the only one that's remembered his previous encounters in another scene where he runs into Squall, Zidane, and Vaan- who each ran into Gilge at least once in thier own continualities

He retained his memories because he wasn't summoned by Cosmos or Chaos, he simply wandered into that dimension by accident. The others lose their memories because they were summoned to act as soldiers for each deity. And the others don't recognise him because he hasn't taken the form of the Gilgamesh in each of their worlds. Zidane makes a comment on him not having 4 arms like the Gilgamesh in FF9 has, and says he doesn't recognise him because of that.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Not sure how many people have heard of this game already, but the only reason I encourage ANYONE to check it out is to see for yourself how broken the game is.

Faction vs Faction PvP round-based FPS.
Completely free.
Though there is a cash shop. Of sorts.

Anyone that remembers or still plays Planetside will quickly see the many resemblances.

Pro-tip: choose Alliance, reach Sergeant Lv1 (insanely easy to do), pick Attack Robot, press C, win game.

No, seriously, it's that easy.
You have to be COMPLETELY RETARDED or UTTERLY BAD to lose once you have access to that robot. You are damn-near nigh-invincible.

Or, if you want a nice challenge, pick Federal.
It's still very possible to win, but you have to be playing with friends, and never trust anyone BUT your friends to know what they're doing unless you witness it first-hand.
Always assume nobody but you noticed the hacked base. Always assume you'll be shot by friendly-fire. Always assume the enemy has at least ONE Attack Robot user, if not several.

To be frank - wait, I can't be Frank, I'm too busy being myself...

All this game did for me was make me want Planetside Next to come out already. I want a TRUE open-world MMOFPS. Without the bullshit ass-hattery.

..... wait, what am I saying, SOE is still involved with Planetside Next as far as I know. OF COURSE there will be bullshit ass-hattery. Well, at least it will be bullshit ass-hattery I can deal with.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

So I just finished the Mass Effect 2 DLC Arrival, and I have to say that it really wasn't worth making it into a DLC. Sure it was alright, but they could have just as easily tacked it onto the main game.

I tried Mass Effect 2 as, but I had the PS3 version so it had all of the DLC's in it and I liked it all.

Eh, not quite. Arrival, for once, is not included in the PS3 version. Of that much I'm sure.

I picked up my copy of MK this morning and have been playing it since. I'm just now taking a break (as I do need to continue art projects). It's a fun game and there's a lot to do. I haven't played online yet because I need to train myself with a character first.

I decided to play through story mode first, then try the challenge tower and online play later. I think I'm barely over half way through it, so it's long. Although that doesn't include the many times I've had to restart a match because of epic failure.

I'm double posting to get your attention.

Warning, xbox online gameplay for MK is laggy as hell. I decided to dick around in the lobby last night, even though I hadn't really practiced with Jade. I was just too tempted.

Every single fight I've had has been laggy. I can't chain combos properly and end up getting my ass kicked. I think the only exception is when I host a game, but fuck what that does to other players.

This shit is getting on my nerves. I except to see some changes in the next week or else I'm calling it quits. There's no way I'm going to teach myself to play with the lag. >_>

Re: Games Discussion Thread

For your consideration:

is a fundraiser held each year for Child's Play and the EFF, wherein a number of games are made available for download after a donation of whatever size you choose. You can then distribute that donation between the two charities, the game developers, and the hosting costs of the site in any amount you choose. It's a fantastic sale if you feel like being a skinflint or a spendthrift, and it's a great opportunity to do a decent thing and get a little for you.

I think it's DRM free, and I know they can be activated on steam.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

While playing Minecraft, I decided that the normal method of "putting switch next to iron doors" just doesn't cut it anymore, and looked into an efficient method to open two-winged doors effectively.

A week later, I find myself with alarm systems of all kinds and a room that shoots you till you die after it locks the door behind you if you pull the wrong switch, even after bringing that switch back into its original position. Unless you pull the right switch, advance and manage to find the reset button (or cheat and take the arrows out of the dispenser, you fucking coward). Next: a room that blows you up and dumps you into lava if you're stupid.

Yeah, I prefer the dropping TNT from the ceiling kinda front entrance trap.

Yeah, but I'm not a fan of blowing up my constructions. Especially since that particular tower is surrounded by a trench that reaches from sea level to bedrock.

Well.....what do you guys think of inFAMOUS. You know, the game with that electric guy, Cole, who lives in a post-disaster Empire City. The disaster was him. He also is what is called a conduit, the ORIGINAL conduit.

P.S.: he's a badass.

Red Faction Guerilla is awesome! I swear, I've been wanting a game forever that has building destruction like this!

And yes, I know it's been out for awhile, but still, the number of games that have this can almost be counted on one had.

Agreed. I said this about a year ago, and then someone else also said this separately about half a year ago.

The game gives you an unexpected perverse love of interesting architecture. Every new structure you come across is a potential victim waiting to be explored and creatively dismantled. I planned the downfall of that large bridge for a long time, waiting for the right moment. And then loaded back and did it again and again.

Then there's simpler moments like driving a tank in through the front door of the government offices and unleashing a volley of rapid fire missiles in a 360 arc. Pure fun.

Tried felling a tower with (literaly) your bare hands yet? Not even using the hammer. There's a trick you can do with throwing all your satchel charges somehow (I forget the exact method), that allows you to empty your hands an be able to punch. Took me nearly half an hour, but I managed to bring down a concrete tower with nothing but Mason's furious fists.

Though what other games are you talking about? I can't really think of anything that allows detailed destruction on quite this level.
