Re: Games Discussion Thread

There's quite the noticeable difference between "customer" and "random guy off the street". The same rule applies if you want to use the bathroom. Not like many places seriously make the restroom customers only, but some places do, and at alot of others the staff won't be very appreciative.

My point is that at least here, the odds of that different being apparent to the person who actually does the recruiting is... shall we say, rather slight?

Heh. Well at Gamestop there were two people behind the counter and no one else in line at the moment. One obviously thought himself a snarker, and the other was clearly excited I was buying Dragon Age and had to restrain heself from giving spoilers.

At Dollar Tree it just so happened they were about to have an opening, so were happy for someone asking anyway.

And just think, those are your potential co-workers, but yeah, I find that at our local gamestops (there's three, but I really only frequent the one, even though two of them are within a stones-throw of one another). There's the role-player, the action guy, the "omg a girl!" ones, and one or two that are pretty well rounded (ie, the actual salespeople, heh).

I can see not wanting to DL from Steam if it's that horrid for you, and both you and Inc have valid arguments about the application process. It does look good if you appear to know the games but at the same time, if we hired everyone that said "Oh, I shop here all the time! I'd be perfect for the job!" Yeah, no.

Ah well. Waiting on Tactics Ogre: Let us cling together. That'll be out next week. Looking forward to that, especially if they streamlined the thing from the old ports.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I don't like steam, in the rare cases i decide to buy something, i want it in it's pretty box on my shelf, i'm an oldstyle gamer, i don't pay if i can't touch.

About tactics ogre i have to say that i'm not very fond of remakes, and squenix has been doing a lot of these lately, and a lot of spin-offs, instead of making new ones, and the few they make rarely leave japan.
I liked the original, so i want to play the new version, but this kinda bothers me: "The PSP has been a haven for ports and remakes of varying quality over the years, but the remastered Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together sets a new standard for remakes on any system" from Gamestop. Is this a good thing?
I noticed that there is hardly anything good coming out for the PSP other than ports and remakes, i don't know what the majority of people might think, but i want new stuff, you must see there is something wrong going on when all the new games go on the NDS, the PSP is more powerful and my hands and eyes don't hurt when i play it, the only reason i can find is that NDS games require a lower production cost for the same selling value, and i know a lot of people that were extremely pissed off from DQ9 coming out as a NDS exclusive.
Squenix is telling us we are not worthy of better games, so i won't buy this new remake and go play the SNES one on a damn emulator if i feel like it, cause i'm sure there won't be much of a difference and the story will be much more enjoyable.

Edit.
Squaresoft forever.

The max download speed I have ever got on anything was 150kbs, on a steam game a few months ago. Generally it is around 100 kbs, half of that if someone else is using the network at the moment, which there ususally is. Even then, no youtube, online gaming, or anything more intense then the forums, if that. My past three or four games have been over steam, and I can put up with it, but having it right there on DVD is handy too.

But this is actually only the second time I've been in the gamestop. It's REALLY tiny, as in I have rooms in my house almost as big. You can't look at displays and walk at the same time or you'll run into something, and last time they had boxes all over the floor, adding to the trouble (granted, it was like two days after the MW2 release, so...). I've generally avoided it for that reason, heavy traffic, and generally buying online.

Also, Mr. Snarky, which is what I'll call the guy who was working there, made the one remark "Yeah, where it says video game experience, do NOT mark "ALL". I lol'd, even though most of what he said was kinda lame.

As a side note, I know for references putting down former bosses (that you're on good terms with) is standard, but would the head of your college's science department be overkill?

The head of the science department might be overkill unless you interned with them. Or you could always put them down in the "personal references" section, if they have that option, rather than as a professional reference.

But, I'll say good luck. A store that tiny might not be doing hiring and if they're anything like the three around here, they rotate the employees around. Or at least the managers. But, hope you at least hear back from them in a positive light. And you watch, Mr. Snarky was probably the manager...

They specifically said they weren't hiring right now, but were talking applications for the Spring. That's fine, while I'll keep looking in the meantime, Spring isn't too far awat and I can afford to wait. Frankly, the job situation in this town is alot worse then the national average, having two campuses nearby with plenty of students looking for work, I've yet to find a place that has an opening at this very moment, with the earliest opening being March 1st.

The above link holds an interesting tidbit of information about the romance options in Dragon Age II. Especially for a certain two ladies around these parts, Copper and Chibi.

Info under a spoiler in case you two dears don't want to ruin the surprise.

That was the second thing my friend linked me to as soon as we started talking tonight. Then we started discussing the short stories they have underneath and how that is affecting how we feel about the characters. She's put off by one (story 2) and I'm put off by another (Story 3). We're both of a favorable opinion on a third (Story 4) and neither of us discussed the fourth (Story 1). There, no spoilers unless you click the link.

Ah. Well at least it wasn't information you'd known for a long time.

May have to share some of those links with the friend, if she hasn't seen them already.

Hehhee, yeah. I have a *bad* habit of that (though it's not really habit if you don't do it on purpose, is it?) Friend will tell me some new bit of gossip, comment, trivia, etc and I already know it by some random happenstance. She *hates* that.

A first person perspective, sandbox, MULTIPLAYER zombie game that emphasizes the use of anything and everything as a weapon. It's like Left 4 Dead and Dead Rising combined and it's exactly what I've been waiting for.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I got the new Marvel vs Capcom today, and I proceeded to play it for about four hours straight. I like Amaterasu and I want to like Arthur, and I don't know who my third is going to be but I want it to be a marvel guy because the capes need love too. Still can't beat Galactus.
