I don't understand how anything that can be won can't be considered an art.

He states that games aren't an art because they have an objective you can win, blah blah and so on, but then states that if Santiago (the person who made the original argument of games being art) can state a game without points or rules, then it's no longer a game in his eyes. It seems like he had no reasoning to it.

Can a game be just the exploration of space to him? Fiddling around with area and controlling whatever you want in sight? I don't play garry's mod, but from what I understand, it's a manipulator with no true objective, so does that cease to be a game as well? What level of interactivity can art have before it's no longer art? I know art structures that you can literally go inside of and explore yourself. Hell, one of the most cited things about the mona lisa is how it's eyes follow you around, so that piece of arts attraction lies in a perceptional response to your own movement around it, hence interactivity. Now is the Mona Lisa not art?

I would say this game is art to at least the same degree as most movies. Also, I would like to ask, if thi blogger has any other posts on the subject of videogames, as he seems rather judging of them.

His entire fault is that he believes that the point of a video game is to be won. He describes movies, books, and similar as: "Those are things you cannot win; you can only experience them."

But the way he looks at videogames is alike to me saying: "A book is not art, because the objective is to reach the end."

The person that he is countering in this interview, did choose some strange games, I would say that apart from "Flower" I can't seem to grasp the artistic concepts of them.

Are all movies art? No.
Are all pictures art? No.
Is all written text art? No.
Are all videogames art? No.

Are some of all the above art? Yes.

Love 'em. Playing video games featuring them by myself though, not so much. I prefer them in movies, books etc... I'll play zombie games but only in multiplayer games or Time Splitters. I'm a bit of a pussy like that XD

I picked up L4D yesterday and played a bit of co-op offline with a friend. Bastard startled the Witch when I told him not to so I had to gun her down while she took him and the others out. Then we got butt raped by a flaming Tank. Was all good fun though.

Aye, the tank is actually less of a threat when it's on fire, loses health quickly,
a quick tip on the witch, auto-shotty, should take her out quickly. xD

I didn't like the shotgun the first time I used it, and I pumped nearly all my ammo into the Tank and it still didn't go down.

Tanks are a different story from witches, tanks require many clips, at the very least four from every weapon, unless it's a grenade launcher,
(good luck hitting him with it),

But a witch goes down if you empty a whole auto-shotty at close range quick enough :3
