The 1981 film was one of the worst films I've ever endured--it was everything wrong and unholy with science-fiction of that time period. I give them points for using Blue Oyster Cult, but that's pretty much it.

Speaking of disappointments, I re-watched "Alien 3" tonight. Some of the performances are pretty decent, but there are plenty of technical problems which ranks this movie below its predecessors. I was never really scared for any of the characters--the convicts are shown as non-sympathetic characters with predictable expirations, and Ripley... well, we all know Ripley's going to at least make it to the climax of the movie.

You know what would have impressed the hell out of me? Kill Ripley halfway through. No fake death, no revival bullshit... she does her little expository bit and leads us along and then BAM! the Xenomorph insta-kills her. Keep the audience on their toes.

That was one of the triumphs of the original "Psycho." You think the plot's about one thing and then... well, I don't want to spoil it if you haven't seen it. Go watch the 1960s flick and see what suspense SHOULD be like.

Problem is, in films where you have strange creatures, people like to have that hero character. For example, in the 1st predator, you probably knew Arnie would make it. You know that he would somehow manage to kill the far more advanced and powerful Monster. If the Predator would have turned him into minced meat after 10 minutes, that would not make for a film as good I think.

Yes, but I'm not talking about the original... I'm talking about the sequel. It would be pretty awesome if Predator 2 started with Ahnold on vacation (or campaigning, even better!) in Los Angeles, and getting executed by the eponymous villain.

(Let's face it, many important historical figures were ignominiously assassinated at gunpoint: Jesse James, "Wild Bill" Hickok, Abraham Lincoln, Malcolm X, John and Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., Archbishop Ferdinand, and so on. All it takes to die is being in the wrong place at the wrong time around someone who finds your existence to be an inconvenience.)

At any rate, at this point in the film you'd see the real protagonist, Danny Glover, who would have dropped several lines foreshadowing his own death, for example: "I'm retiring next month," or "I'm too old for this shit." Lo and behold, Danny survives to fight the Predator while Ahnold gets iced.

THAT would be a fun sequel.

It is a common myth that the Schwarzenegger can die, so I'd rather have him as a sort of guy explaining things about the predator to glover :D
By the way, Predator vs Terminator would be rather cool I think, although poor skynet would end up in the trash can:D:D

Not counting fake deaths in Running Man and Total Recall, he's expired on-screen at least three times: Terminator, T-2, and T-3. I'm not sure the Terminator movies count, however, as technically he plays an advanced cybernetic machine and does not completely qualify as "alive."

I implemented a joke here ;) But anyway, killing Arnie "for real" in a movie would just seem awkward, so I think he'd be better off as a guy who tells the story of what he experienced.

Nah, I'm sure he'll be back.

Except in politics. I don't think he'll ever be back in politics.

How Can Arnold Die For Real If Death Isn't Real

He's also a foodie.

So, I'm still having mixed feelings about this one.

Probably going to wait until it comes out on video, I'm thinking. Looks interesting, but I'll wait for the redbox.

Also...FANGIRL SQUEEE!

BLINK! *bounce bounce bounce* I really hope they manage to do her character justice because while she went out in a blaze of glory in the comics, future Blink was a total BAMF (and no, we are not talking Nightcrawler teleportation here.) Can. Not. Wait.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Wow. Been a while. *hears 'Rise from the Grave!' - Altered Beast Style*

Anyway. Can anyone tell me why this is a thing? Besides the fact that David Spade is a hack comedian who needs to make mortgage payments?

I mean, it's been FOURTEEN years since the first one came out. That's *almost* a third of my lifespan. Granted, Star Wars did something similar but there was *content* there. Backstory that was hinted at and could finally be told. This is...not even direct to video. They bill it as "direct to digital." I mean, even Crow: Wicked Salvation got it's prerequisite week in theaters before they shoved it off into video infamy.

Maybe it's just me and my hate-on for Spade. I personally don't find him very funny and the only role I like him in is in PCU where his snivelly, snotty toady brand of humor is put to best use as...a snivelly, snotty little toady. I just...why?!

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

o.o I think you answered your own question there. I tried to think of another reason but just can't. I'm embarrassed to admit I've seen the original movie because I was dating a guy in high school that wanted to see it, and I was too stupid to say no. It. was. the. worst. movie. I've. ever. seen. The only possible reason to make a sequel is pure trolling.

I thought David Spade was okay in "Just Shoot Me!" Anyone remember that show? It was kinda cute, but that's about it.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I remember seeing parts of the original, too. I think the then bf's parents rented it or it was on cable or something. I remember the alligator thing (but then, that was in the trailers, too) and I remember his gf giving this impassioned speech at the end about love and his parents, but I don't remember *details*. And I didn't like him in that, either (though I do remember the show) and how he was an asshole in that, too. I think the only episode I ever sat through was the one where he goes to the premiere of this video game and the guy who designed it used to work under him and he abused him horribly and so he turned Spade's character into the troll in the game and the game was, essentially "Bash the Troll." And then someone there realized *he* was the troll and it was all very embarrassing for him. I think that about sums up my relationship with Spade.

Well, it's already know, but X-men: Apocalypse is going to be Hugh Jackman's last stint as the Clawed Canadian with a Curious hairdo.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I don't. I'll admit to being biased, but it's one of the few Canadian superheroes out there (Granted we also have Deadpool, but I wonder if that'll even come up in the coming movies), so I do want more Wolverine.

That whole Canadian thing is what made me hate the Origins movie in the intro.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

The backstory in Origins kind of made me hate Origins but that's beside the point...

Regardless of the origin they choose for him, I always consider him Canadian, despite the fact that he's been freaking everywhere. And I'm guessing they're probably going to gloss over Deadpool's nationality, too, given what I've seen with the trailer, but you never know.
