And another announcement, I dyed my hair again. And finals are coming up, so my nose will be stuck in a book rather than the computer.
If I'm not back in ten days, I'm dead. Then right after that it's off to Germany-land. Yay! Frankfurt!
(Though at this point I'd rather go to vicodenland. Someone get me some and a Bahama Mama please)

Nowadays, we learn English even in kindergarden and most folks until maybe age forty-ish have at least some basic knowledge of the language. Combine that with a little "Hallo", "Tschüss" and "Prost!" and I'm sure you'll get by.

Kidding of course. I would love to go to Germany and take in the sights. I know in Belgium I got by very easily only speaking English, though had a tougher time in Paris, France... strangely enough the smaller towns in Northern France I visited had more English speakers.

Had a cousin who went to Paris once. He told me it's like New York, the residents hate tourists. Told me France is great but Paris gives it a bad reputation, that the stereotype of the french asshole mostly comes from Paris.

I think I can understand their attitude to a certain degree, or at least the attitude of those who come into contact with tourists involuntarily on a frequent basis. Trying to get from A to B can be annoying because there are hundreds of people crowding the place in order to take a picture in front of a heap of iron to post on Facebook. Prices skyrocket just because the town has been mentioned in literature or seen on tv. Folks regard you as part of a cliché, and so on.

Hm. I had a job interview today, for the position of a security guard. I must admit I went in with skewed expectations. The company's requirements were stricter than I imagined - then again, they're guarding a US Army outpost, not a mall. I'd be expected to pass a physical test (running, crunches etc.) AND learn how to shoot.
They gave me time to consider, but I don't think this is the route I want to go down. If it comes down to it, I'd rather work in a factory. The job would be just as numbing, but at least I wouldn't have a gun. Of course, ideally neither happens and I get a desk job. Given my previous job experience (0), these chances are slim.

Rule, I've stood watch with a sidearm, and I've got friends who work in a factory. As I understand it, factory work is significantly more boring.
Besides, the occasional gun qualification and re-qualification can be fun... especially if they let you train on the shotgun, too. One question, though, do they ever use OC spray?

I'd rather have the factory job, myself. My mind is constantly wandering, so boredom is rarely an actual issue, but I hate guns, and don't trust them. I don't think I could do that kind of job.

Really? The purpose of a security guard is to guard the facility (and the people working at said facility) they're employed at, and that has the possibilty of leading to confrontations that require deadly force. If you're not willing to get involved in such things it might be a good idea to look into a different line of work, or at least a job at a low risk facility such as a mall.
Remember, it's not just your life that's in jeopardy if some maniac decides it's a good day to bring his shotgun to work and kill everyone. And with the proper training (and adherence to) firearms are only dangerous to those you intend to shoot.

Why is it that the first thing that popped into my head was "It's fine to stick to your guns, Rule." But that would be horribly punny in this situation.
Still, do what you feel you can do. If you're not comfortable with the notion of carrying a weapon like that, I'm sure they'll understand. Things like that aren't for everyone. Do wish you luck in the continuing job hunt, though.

So today I drove my car off a small cliff and nose dived into a tree. Bouncing the rear off of another tree on the way down. Considering the rest of the drop, hitting the tree was the good part.
Strangely the only pain involved in the entire incident was the loss of the vehicle itself. No broken bones, no neck injuries, no cuts or gashes, no bruises. Not a scratch. Got a lift the rest of the way to my intended destination and ate some cake.
Repeatedly hearing and using the phrase "lucky" in regard to destroying £800 of car (and two innocent trees) is just a little hard to swallow, but after being able to climb away from the scene and look at all the ways it could have easily gone a hundred times worse, it would be shamefully selfish to think of it any other way.
Take care whilst driving in wet weather.
