Ok, first off, let's only use the latest version, so mnfserver13.

Open a command window with administrator privileges. I can only give the Win7 method, hoping Vista is more or less the same: Go to the start menu, in 'Search' type in 'cmd'. It will pop up 'cmd.exe'. Right click that and select 'Run as administrator'.

Now navigate to the correct directory (http://perishablepress.com/press/200...-dos-commands/) and run 'mnfserver13.exe'.

If it quits it should at least give you the error message now in the command window.

Report back with results.

Same problem as before, only when running in cmd.exe it just makes an empty line and brings me back to the last directory.
Seems like windows cannot run the program for some reason.
Does it matter what directory it is in? Does there have to be a certain path? (Such as program files? or documents?)
Do the file names matter? Is there anything I am doing wrong?
And yes I am running it as administrator, with the files in the same directory as mnfserver13.exe

Edit:
I retried, reopened cmd.exe again and it seems to have frozen cmd.exe this time.
Made a new line and is no longer responding to the keyboard, yet cursor is still blinking?
Just had a thought that maybe the firewall was blocking it without warning.
I added an exception, Results are the same as the first attempt. :s (No freezing this time)

Edit again:
I tried again (I am very stubborn for different test results), and it froze again.
However I noticed something different. According to task manager mnfserver13.exe is in fact running.
It is actually using between 48 and 58% of my cpu and 805 kb (~0.03%) of my memory.
I tried to open meetandfuckgames.com, instant failure ("Unable to connect").

Is there something different that would allow mnfserver11.exe to "open" on my computer, but not for any of the other versions?

Nope, it should run anywhere. And filenames do not matter. As far as I can tell you are not doing anything wrong.

Update:

Ok, I installed a fresh Vista Home Premium SP2 (32-bit) and it just worked. Or at least no crashes. The firewall popped up to ask if I wanted to unblock the program, the Phishing prtection on MSIE asked me if I wanted it on or not, but otherwise it just worked.

So unless you can get any specific errors out of the program I'm kinda drawing a blank. Have you considered moving to Windows 7?

As I am pretty sure that my OS is messed up since I can't seem to fix the errors I am having so far
Had to get a new HDD, I think it's time to get rid of vista

First of all, this is the "Meet'nFuck games and server" thread.
I am guessing unless this isn't related to "Meet'nFuck games and server" (Which it obviously is) you should be posting replies in the thread (Not in pm).
(Correct me if I am wrong. Others might have the same issue as you, and it will help if anyone wants to go and write a tutorial for these errors.)

Second, Based on your first post, it doesn't seem you have tried other programs other then WinRar (You do appear to have tried other downloads, I assume from different sites as well).
Try 7-Zip (Free), PeaZip (Free) or WinZip (Free Trial Version, much like winrar) (or all 3?)

Might it be possible that similar to qSatisfaction, I might have gotten a corrupted version(s) of the EXE?
Can I upload them and see if you can run them on your vista? or maybe you should just upload your version?
that way qSatisfaction should get a direct link to the program without needing to download anymore game files

I assume you mean "HOSTS" not "hose"
From what I understand If you close MNFserver using the esc key, it will automatically reset it back

If that doesn't work for some reason, there is a tutorial for changing the HOSTS file manually here (I don't know why the pictures are down though, it's only been 3 days)
You just need to change Part 1, Step 7: Edit a new line of "127.0.0.1 Localhost"

p.s. if anyone knows a better picture hosting site outside of tinypic.com that will allow uploads longer than 3 days, please let me know, thanks

Obviously I did that murray but I can't shut down a program that I do not know the name to. I have an address at 0.0.0.0:80 which has it listed as "Can not obtain ownership information". The only other thing listed at port 80 is firefox which I shut down and it still would not work. And I do not use skype.

Run netstat from an console with administrator privileges and you should get a program name. If you are using Vista, then you might be out of luck, some report it works, others can't get it to run at all.

And no, that has nothing to do with MNFserver, so don't do what he did unless you know what your doing... if you do, then great, because I suck at explaining things.
(By the way, I typed "Cannot obtain ownership information" into google and it was the first result... I am not kidding, it is literally that easy!)

Note: I am going to skip using Task manager services tab for these steps
Do the following:
1. Go here and download something called "Process Explorer" (No installation required, thank God)
2. As you are waiting for it to download, Go run cmd.exe in administrator mode
3. Type "netstat -abno" (Yes, without the quotes) and press enter
4. Find the program that was listed as "Can not obtain ownership information"
5. Write down the PID (Process ID) somewhere and save it for later
(Note: so you don't ask me where it is, look at the top of the list, it is labeled as "PID" and is usually the at the end of the row)

6. When the process explorer finishes downloading (hopefully by now), Unzip the folder and run the program
7. Now look for the PID that you wrote/typed down
8. Right click it and select properties (This is so you know what directory it is in, and hopefully now know what the process is)

I recommend closing the process from the program window instead of killing it from the process explorer
As I cannot see what is going on with your computer I can tell you there is a chance you may have a problem with this regardless, please post a DETAILED example of what you did, use prnt scrn if you have to.

And no, don't bother asking me what the PID is, it is probably going to be different for each computer
Although if it is a low number (Such as 4) there is a very high chance it is a windows program or something that was installed on the computer when you first got it (For the guy in the link it was McAfee).

p.s. I am not saying that google will give you information this easily, but it's times like this when I do it myself and it was THAT simple, that I can't understand why you had such a problem. (again, not trying to be an A*hole)
Although usually you have to find several different links to get all the information you need, that's why it's called research.

*I am not responsible for any damage you do to your computer if you do kill the process and it turns out to be important (Try restarting the computer)

Also is anyone else pissed that Task Manager does NOT do all this? that's bull (At least it listed the PID of services)

Please read the forum BEFORE posting, we have a tutorial for this (I recommend page 9)
Post a reply on results, if it didn't work please use LOTS of details (or pictures), we like those.

I don't think murray has made it yet, but I am sure we will be updated, but the release seems to depend on the protection on the games being broken. Patients is a virtue.

If you are referring to the demos, the new ones will PROBABLY (No promises) be included in the next mnfserver release, which according to murray will be coming "soon-ish," (see quote above).

i've been readingcarefully through all the posts and still can't get mnfserver to work.

my hosts file is correct. a ping points to my machine.

I'm running windows 7, mnfserver13.

mnfserver runs smoothly and opens a new tab in firefox pointing to meetandfuckgames.com.

The problem is nothing appears on this tab, just a blank screen. For what I read I understand that something resembling the MnF website should appear? I get nothing. If I try and load manually the swf files, I get the MnF loading screen but it doesn't go beyond 0%.

any ideas? thanks

On a side note, mnfserver says that I should be able to get the games even by invoking www.meetandfuckgames.com in the browser. In that case, when the browser arrives to 127.0.0.1 following the hosts file, how does it know where to find the games in my machine?

That is, if I simply write 127.0.0.1 in my browser I get a blank page, so why would writing www.meetandfuckgames give a different result?

Please avoid double-posting and just edit your last post.
127.0.0.1 is your localhost (Another words, your computer)
You are simply redirecting where the hostname "www.meetandfuckgames.com" goes from "174.142.104.83" [Source] to your computer
From what I understand it appears that this keeps the games from communicating with website. (Don't quote me on that)

Please read this post.
Do you have the flash files in the same directory as the mnfserver?
Have you tried to manually enter: www.meetandfuckgames.com into your browser? (Just that link)
I assume that since mnfserver is actually running that no anti-virus programs found it.
Did mnfserver give you any errors?
Have you attempted this on any other browsers?
When the server opens the new window in firefox, does anything appear in the URL?
If the problem isn't solved by this then you will probably have to wait for murray to post (Hopefully it can be fixed).

Please report detailed results! The more useful information you give us the better we can understand the problem.
