Re: In today's news...

Former German chancellor Helmut Kohl passed away at 87. I always had a soft spot for him, somehow. Maybe because he happened to be chancellor when the inner-German border collapsed. Maybe because he truly was a larger-than-life figure in more than one sense (his enormous gut made an easy target for ridicule, earning him the nickname of Birne - bulb or pear in English). He was no saint, and he was no family man - hell, he was a staunch conservative who was involved in a massive corruption scandal. But still. I couldn't help but respect him. Rest in peace.
Only sad thing is he will go down with a last negative image as every channel on tv sent a atleast 60min long documentation about him when people just wanna watch their evening program. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Re: In today's news...

I notice there's no place for comments on that site. I wonder why

Yeah, stupid fuck got what he deserved. Just as everyone that breaks the law and/or fights against the police get what they deserve, regardless of skin color.

We'll just ignore the fact that NK is cancer.

What are you talking about? Don't you understand the virtues of cultural relativism? Atrocities both past and present don't matter so long as you're foreign and there's a reason for it in the culture! Who are you as a CIS WHITE MALE to question people you have no frame of reference to relate to? Where is the tolerance! You some kinda racist?!

Re: In today's news...

This week-ish, in Britain...

Tim Farron, Liberal Democrat Leader has resigned, citing reasons related to his religion, of people's attempts to draw criticism towards his beliefs, and the like.

-

A massive blaze has consumed a tower block in London.

Apparently it was caused by a refridgierator near a window... the fire then caught onto the building's external cladding which blazed, consuming most of the external structure within 20-30 minutes.

Suffice to say, with as many people passing away in such a horrific manner, and many, many more missing, along with identification of the victims as well as any sense of official investigation going on, one would assume it'd be a time to 'keep calm and carry on' in the British sense; keeping a level head, and not delve into exploitation of a situation, right?

Spotted at a protest mere days after the horrific incident, placards titled 'Socialist Workers' with slogans like 'Teresa May has blood on her hands' and 'Tories out' even though neither has anything to do with the blaze. Hard-left agitators are infiltrating protests (nothing new), but some calling for 'a day of rage' during Wednesday/every Wednesday to 'bring down the government'. Shadow Chancellor John McDonold of Labour and Jeremy Corbyn's close advisor/friend, is calling for 'a million people on the streets'.

The Prime Minister has been accused of 'a robotic response' and 'dodging questions', though it went un-reported she had visited the firefighters earlier than her rival, while also dealing with the now-activated Brexit discussions.

-

A man has driven a truck into a crowd as they left Finsbury Park Mosque in UK, the Imam and his worshippers then shielded the attacker from a angry crowd who were kicking him until police arrived. He had screamed he 'wanted to kill Muslims' before being detained by bystanders.

I wear the FORCED title of CIS WHITE MALE racist with pride. It symbolizes truth, justice, logic, and the great American way!

Did anybody else wonder, when CIS started being used, why they were calling people trade-federation droids?

The Queen reported to West Yorkshire Police for 'not wearing seat belt'
Article speaks for itself.

But that said, my usual source for news has mostly become spam and junk, and the people who link me news now just tell me they can't find stuff anymore.
Anyone know a good place for it?

Re: In today's news...

There's not too many reliable news sites that aren't considered trash anymore :/, maybe try going through the sites others have used on here? Mainly use cbc myself, but it's Canadian...

Following up on the London tower fire,

Cladding was determined to have not complied with building standards as opposed to fire caused by refrigerator hotpoint issue, with possible charges being laid.

Following safety checks, five tower blocks have been evacuated in northwest London, for similar cladding issues.

Luckily, I still get some news that's not junk tier, even if it is from a junk tier site

EU slaps Google with record $2.7 billion fine
Because Google is making some search results they like show up far before the search results they don't like

Re: In today's news...

So... because google is displaying its own ads at the top, to support running its service they're somehow in the wrong?

Wtf? Did google forget to grease someone's palm?

Whats next?
Your tv service won't be able to advertise itself on its own channels?
Steam will have to show a price comparison to other services?

This is a really dumb fine, you'd think they'd focus on the whole tax evasion thing these globalist bastards do instead.

Re: In today's news...

It's more complex than that.
Google provides a search engine service, the shops are independent. If it uses this search engine to favour its other businesses, thats not cool lawwise. Google can make, or break, millions of dollars for people simply by putting them in a higher or lower spot, just google hentai games, see which ones come up first. Do you want the 'good' aka, often played, often liked and revisited ones, to come first, or do you want those that pay google first?

If you disagree, just imagine it was information, not shopping we were dealing with here, imagine the news google wanted reported were on the first page, those they didn't want anyone to know about on the second, and we are like one step away from a dystopian setup.

They're clearly marked as ads though and I skip straight past them.

A Minnesota woman killed her boyfriend Monday by shooting at a book he was holding over his chest, in a YouTube video stunt gone wrong.

This would be worth a Darwin Award if they didn't already have a kid.

hardcover encyclopaedia... He might've had a chance if they weren't using a deagle... but on the bright side, the kid has a chance of getting a dad with common sense if the girl plays her cards right.
