Drowning yourself is one of the worst ways to go. The panic you suffer from lack of oxygen makes drowning oneself a very undesirable way to commit suicide, in my opinion.

I like to make it loose to give the players the option of choice.

Azure wasn't asking the right questions, you were asking me OOC to make them just blurt out everything, which is not how I roll, son. Although the questions she did ask were answered, the NPC's themselves answered in a way they thought was appropriate, and not based on a die roll.

I think I'm starting to get an idea of how you do roll, RJ, and I'm just wondering... XD If a line of questioning doesn't work, is there anything else that we can do to get bits of information and build NPC relationships; or at least have NPC's warm up to us that doesn't stretch beyond the character's IC tendencies? X3 What if our characters aren't quite so extroverted or willing to pile on the drama to get something done? Or should I just plunge into cheesy drama mode for the giggles?

Well, it depends on the NPC you're talking to. Some, like Jesse, don't hide very much from people, as they disagree with lying. Others, like David, are so wrapped up in their own solitude, that the most they're willing to say is, "Yes, no" answers. It really depends on how your character acts towards the person they're talking to.

Although this is a game, I did have the desire for this to be a role playing game as well. Yes, that means cheesy drama. :p

It helps build character involvement, rather than just saying, my character is all like, 'tell meh where teh goods R.' which kinda kills the mood for me, and has often made me pass up the post entirely, as I cannot possibly think of a response to such a bland, emotionless action.

As far as a good direction to go as far as kick-starting something, all I can truly recommend is missions. You can interact with the NPC's as much as you like, talk with them, have sex with them, or do the same with other players. But, if that bores you after a while, given the situation presented, the most else one can do is partake in a mission.

The problem with this is that whenever Azure goes out of her way to try to interact with characters and roleplay out preparing new missions or coming up with ideas, like the Inn's newspaper or most recently, she went to the chatty member of the group they ran into and tried to get the girl to tell her something about the jail...

NOTHING COMES OF IT!


It feels like you reward players who avoid roleplaying and interaction. Our choices are:

"Hey NPC. Train me to shoot better." I go train guns for a few hours.

"Yeah yeah, okay, here's how you shoot."
The NPC trains you, and you gain a level in guns.


Or:

"Hey. I need a little help with my idea. I want to gather a group to go hunt down a portable generator to see if we can get some spotlights for the Inn, to make nighttime defense easier. We'd keep the lights off until we need them, then if anything bad happens, we'll kick them on.

Do you think you could pass the word along that we need some gas cans and maybe a bit of fuel? We'll go find the generator if you could at least help with that much."

"No. Fuck you. We don't have time for your shit. Go do it yourself."
The NPC doesn't want to help you, you're going to have to do everything on your own.


I know you don't mean it like that RJ. But it just feels like it at times. The harder some of us try to actually roleplay something and interact, the harder we get shot down, then we turn around and look at how easily people who are half-assing their posts get by.

Mainly because, training, in and of itself, is a very simple thing. There's not much complication that can be added to a workout, or a little how-to from an NPC.

The kind of roleplaying I get from people like Burning, Keylo, Shrike, Wallpaper, Janna, DeMatt, and Loli, right off the top of my head, is all the roleplaying I ask for. The emotions, intentions, feelings, and the method of actions is all I truly require, which most of them have successfully managed to capture.

What I need is a visual picture of what you're chatacter is doing, thinking, and feeling, so that I can run the situation in my head.

And with the chatty girl, nothing what you wanted came of it, and there's not much I can do about how you think things should go, other than giving you the reigns as a GM.

Well this is my first serious RP... Any other RP I participated in didn't involve a dice system and was easy to god mod...

Well, going to drop a few thoughts on what I think of Azure and her actions so far.

So far, Azure strikes me as one of those people who are over nosy/paranoid for their own good. Now this may not necessary be a bad thing, as it certainly fits her background very well, in that she's a highly inquisitive person, however recently of late from what I've read, the paranoia has started to get rather annoying to some extent, seeing as how she's constantly spinning out conspiracy theories regarding the Director, trying to get people to rebel against the "organization" in Apple Inn, or in general being the person who manages to fawk up unity in a group fighting for survival and getting them screwed over. Now let me just say that this is completely in character as far as I can tell, and I appreciate Kayi's abilities to give this portrayal. I just hate Azure as a character since she reminds me of the type of person who would generally screw a group over by starting stupid internal conflicts when there's a greater threat than some stupid "Omg this person is definitely plotting behind my back because they're being extremely secretive." This is most likely why alot of the other characters don't get along with her that well as I can't think of many people even in real life who likes conspiracy theorists (I sure don't at the very least). What I DON'T like however, is when drama is instigated in OOC because people aren't willing to go along with Azure and her plans whether out of IC resentment/disagreements. It's obvious with the type of character Azure is, that there will be people who don't appreciate her plans/ideas and that they'll either turn her down flat or even try to screw her plans over. Complaining that things Azure try to do aren't to any real effect in OCC, instead of continuing to push for them in IC is NOT the way to go. In fact, if anything, she should try to gather IC support and continue to try for it if the character truly cares/believes that much in regards to what she is doing.

So summary:


Kayi does an excellent job in portraying Azure.
Azure is an over paranoid/nosy conspiracy theorist (or at least she gives off that feeling).
Azure's plans most likely fail due to her failure to get people to support them. Most likely as a result of her personality.
Most people probably dislike Azure as she continues to breed internal conflict in the organization when there are already more pressing concerns from external sources.
Complaining in OCC/instigating drama in OCC is not appreciated and definitely not the way to go from a RP perspective.

Mainly I just wanted to comment that I disliked the character from an IC perspective. If I was in a similar position as our characters are in, and someone like Azure came around I'd hate her to a certain extent, since I don't like people who pry into the affairs of others or come up with inane conspiracy theories in real life. From an OCC perspective? I personally love Kayi's roleplaying, seeing as he's been giving one of the best depictions of this type of character I've seen in a long time coming. Unfortunately, I just dislike this type of character, although I praise quality roleplaying regardless.

Azure's actions are a result of the so-called "unity" working against her. All of her ideas to bring the group closer together or improve the group's survivability have been stonewalled.

What's come to bother me about my plans, as a player and a character, is that even my (former) contact, who is supposed to support Azure in her plans, shunned and rejected her ideas. He should be the first one to leap up and offer to help.


So if you can come up with a legitimate IC reason why this has happened, then maybe Azure is overreacting.

If not, then I actually think Azure is under-reacting, because I'm going out of my way to drop every mission that gets rejected and just move on to something else.


Thoughts? Opinions? Theories on why someone who should be supporting Azure is suddenly against her? Because right now, I've got nothing.

- The director is hiding things and seems to know everything that's going on before anyone else.
- The director called her in for a special conference and somehow learned her name without having ever met her before.
- The director's lackeys are all tight lipped and mindlessly obedient.
- The doctor that she went out and helped rescue is just as tight lipped and unhelpful as the director's lackeys.
- The doctor that she went out and saved also refuses any offers to get real medical supplies, seeming content to simply watch the girls birthing monsters.
- Azure's Contact (the pilot), who was THE FIRST PERSON TO WARN AZURE ABOUT THE DIRECTOR...

Yes, I need to say that again: THE PILOT was the FIRST PERSON to speak out against the director. Azure was only trying to be kind and helpful, even after this outburst from the pilot. Now to continue...

... who was the first person to warn Azure about the director, is suddenly mindlessly on her side and rejects helping Azure on her missions, in favor of waiting around for missions from the Director.

- No one seems particularly talkative or forward with information they do find out.
- Even when Azure tells people clear facts, they look at her funny and doubt it.



These reasons are adding up in Azure's mind. She didn't start out as a paranoid conspiracy theorist. The director and the people of the Inn have made her into one.

if anyone can find some way to explain away these issues, I would LOVE to return to playing Azure as a kind reporter that's only out for a scoop. I honestly don't like her as a conspiracy nut either, but she's got no choice anymore unless someone were to beat her in the skull until she forgets everything that's happened.

Well, Kayi, I think I'll take a swing at some of that last post. A lot of it sounds like an attack; please try to keep your temper down - this is how I see things, which isn't necessarily the majority view.

Two, three days? Isn't it possible that the Pilot spent some time talking with the Director? He isn't in the air 24 hours a day, after all. He isn't even tinkering with the helicopter 24 hours a day.

To be honest, I think a lot of the problems you're having is that you tend to type up way too much dialog in a single post. In general, everybody else goes a sentence at a time:

Whereas Azure tends to spit out eight or ten sentences in a row without anyone interrupting. Great... if she's ranting. Not so great, if she's actually trying to hold a conversation. Is it any wonder people hear Azure's block of verbiage, then tune it out?

It's tempting to rattle on and on, getting your say out. But remember, you need to let people react. And then you can react to their reaction - forming the interaction known as a conversation. Try limiting yourself to a single sentence of dialog in each post. Two, if you think I'm being cruel.

First of all, before I get into anything, I'm not angry about this and I'm actually rather mellow. I'd really like it if I could play Azure as kind again. So let's get into it.

1) I don't doubt how she learns a lot of this, but the fact she hides it from everyone and never tells anyone but those closest to her of vital information. Then she shuns ideas of sharing information.

2) Azure never told her pilot her last name. And seeing as he contacted her for the story, she never saw the need to. But sure, I can pass that off as acceptable.

3) Azure's been trying to ask everyone about lots of things whenever the chance has come up. Her dealings with the director's lesser lackeys have always been that of mindless adoration. (See Jesse.)

4) No she didn't. Azure was offering to go back to the hospital to get medical supplies and asked what kind of things were needed, and instead of answering, she refused to say anything and demanded Azure not talk with any other doctors about it either.

5) See 4. Azure was planning on going back to the hospital again for supplies to help study the monster spawn, in hopes that SOMEONE could figure SOMETHING out about them. But again, this was shunned.

6) Two days? Three days? And he turns from suspicious of the director and on Azure's side, to the director's loyal lackey and stonewalling Azure? I'm surprised she doesn't outright think he's hypnotized by her.

7) She's been trying to talk to NPCs for mission info and background info. From a purely IC standpoint, she's more likely to run into an NPC than a PC. And from a purely OOC standpoint, the NPCs know more than the PCs do. Two good reasons why she's attempted to question the NPCs about things, depending on which way you approach it.

8) Point taken, so I need to shorten my posts to one sentence each. Which means conversations are going to take place like the one with David on the roof. 3 pages of one line posts to try to hold a one minute conversation.

Yes. Shorten your posts to EXACTLY one sentence each, Kayi. Obviously that's the only thing you can do.</sarcasm>

Just shorten your questions down so that there's more chance for people to react to what Azure has to say -- in an interview, it works exactly like that. The interviewer doesn't dump all of her questions on the interviewee all at once, even if she has them all listed down beforehand... so why is Azure trying to approach questioning NPC's that way?

If it's bothering you, write your questions out on a text pad and keep 'em in order to use them on different NPC's, if you're not getting what you want from the first. Write different ways of asking that question. Figure out how to chop that question into getting smaller pieces of information, since RJ is obviously more about dropping breadcrumbs than the whole loaf.

And ffs, try acting as mellow as you say you are. You try one method for getting things done with your character and if they don't work, you throw a hissy fit here about it. :\ It never ends -- once one thing is settled you move right into the next set of griping and indicate that you never really got over the initial gripe to begin with. Why are you still here if you're obviously so disgruntled with the system -- or is it that you're more entertained with bringing up old gripes over and over than actually having fun playing a game -- a hobby -- with other people who are trying to have fun?

The main problem with the extended dialogue is that AWMBI is ultimately a PbP, and a laid back one at that. Now normally I would be one of the first to raging at one liner posts, but here it seems... "appropriate" at times. Naturally I'd still rage if a part called for a speech and got a single sentence instead, but "casual" conversation... well, there are ways of roleplaying it to make it stretch out, but blocks of text in every single situation ups the game's ante from a "laid-back" play by post game into an elitist semi-lit/lit roleplay where people take forever to interact with each other or are forced to collaborate OCC to finish a single post. Now believe me, those are entertaining in their own right, but I believe most of the people who joined AWMBI didn't want to have to be subject to that.

Actually, I wouldn't mind it. XD That's what Janna and I have been doing, sort of, and a little bit with Xivvix as well (though he hasn't been on as often!) I've probably had more fun tossing PM's to Janna to say "hay, what about doing this? Or this? How about we plan this for the next day!" and then playing it out when we get a chance, than in the grinding for levels in skills that Claire's got so far. I'm up for getting hit up with PM's from other players that want to do something aside from "HAY LET'S GO ON A MISSION OKAY" if they want it. I heart character interaction!


Also, DeMatt, I knew you'd have a fun character. XDD Too bad your earlier plan didn't follow through... if I could make a second character to replace futa-mina as a toy, I so would.

Oh man, I want to make a character just for that now... RJ's getting all the fun with playing Kitty!

Person A: I'm not who you think I am, I'm *insert bunch of self-pity crap*.
Person B: Even if you're/you've *insert bunch of self-pity crap*, you're still my *insert lover/friend/family*.
Person A: Even if I'm *insert related self-pity crap*.
Person B: Even if you're *insert related self-pity crap*.

This is generally followed by alot of emotion, with tears of happiness, promises to stay together forever, or other good stuff like that.

Up to you if you want to follow through with this though.

XD)

Give Luna her purpose of defending the inn and the gals in it, and maybe that will kick her back into gear? It'll also spread out her protective tendencies from just one woman (Iris) so perhaps she'll seem less the stalker and more the gung-ho warrior for good that she sounds like she wants to be.

That's the problem, she doesn't have enough attachment to the Inn itself (yet) to want to defend everyone in the Inn. (Not to mention the fact there's a few people she has some form of disdain for.) Likely Luna has become more attached to Iris is that she's spent "more time" interacting with her/was the first one to greet her with "kindness" (which she hasn't received in a while). The rest?... (Well, this is likely her fault) Asides from Jess, I can't think of anyone she actually cares about enough to dedicate her life to protecting them at the moment. Although given time and with more interactions...

@BG: That sounds good, just toss a "and that will always be the case" at the end and I'd say it'd be perfect.

Gotta love the "search thread" function.1) I don't doubt how she learns a lot of this, but the fact she hides it from everyone and never tells anyone but those closest to her of vital information. Then she shuns ideas of sharing information.Ya know, maybe the Director's trying to do the same thing Azure is trying to do - and she doesn't want to be interrupted for status reports every three seconds.

7) She's been trying to talk to NPCs for mission info and background info. From a purely IC standpoint, she's more likely to run into an NPC than a PC. And from a purely OOC standpoint, the NPCs know more than the PCs do. Two good reasons why she's attempted to question the NPCs about things, depending on which way you approach it....really? Why would the generic NPCs - the guards and the medical staff - know any more than the PCs do? I'll grant you the Director, I'll spot you Jesse and Freybe while I'm at it, but everyone else is too busy with their own responsibilities to do any investigating into other areas.
8) Point taken, so I need to shorten my posts to one sentence each. Which means conversations are going to take place like the one with David on the roof. 3 pages of one line posts to try to hold a one minute conversation.Which turns out to actually BE a conversation, instead of Azure rattling off a speech, followed by the intended recipient going "eh, whatever".

Questionable actually. On one hand, Luna is now completely dedicated to Iris, so she "could" mistake Iris for it, and fall prey to it. On the other hand... Luna is generally good at "judging people", and distinguishing between them. If she deemed the slime girl to "not be Iris", she would kill it out of rage for having attempted to "impersonate Iris". I believe the latter is more likely myself, as she honestly doesn't seem the type to be deceived so easily. (even if she can't recognize her own emotions, she can recognize the mindsets of others quite well...)

Also, let it be known in advance. Luna has no mercy, even now. If she is ever raped and impregnated... she would kill the result with her own hands given the chance. (That includes a human child too on that note.) Of course, that would include killing the rapist in the most horrifying fashion she could but... yeah.

Like if someone hurts Iris intentionally, whether physically or emotionally, they can expect twice in return from Luna. If Iris is ever captured... expect Luna to follow soon after in that she charges AFTER the monster that captures Iris, suicide or not.

2.) The founding of the Inn as a safe haven in the first place - I assume Amy was responsible, but how did it come about that she was in the position to do so?

3.) Seriously, I'm sure there was more of a reason for us to fight that goddess then her killing of Shiva - maybe a little history on what else she's done?

4.) Anything she knows about how this thing started and/or who did it. (That one she may really not know or legitimately refuse to answer, but some hint at one or the other might be nice. :P)

First one's easy, Amy wanted to make herself seem like a powerful authority figure.

Second is only something select few know, you'd have to figure out a way to get them to spill the beans if you didn't want to wait for a plotline mission to tell you.

Third one was mostly an act of desperation from Amy. She felt like she had already lost when Shiva was defeated by the woman in white, and wanted to make a last ditch attack on her, when she was saved by you three.

Fourth one is sketchy, and since most people arrived when the hotel was already set up, it's obvious who knows it's origins.

If a monster dies of old age before a woman is no longer fertile, another will takes it's place (Most likely one of the children she gave birth to.) and will proceed to use her in the same fashion, fucking her after she awakes, draining the essence, then the baby drains any essence she regenerates, keeping her in a comatose state until it's done feeding.

I think she should be able to cure at least one person even if she ends up with about 15 to 20 essence... Since she has high willpower it's harder for her to faint <.<

(Red = -6 to rolls concerning physical stress, and mental concentration. Also, when under this status, all movement is slowed to a crawl, and can only keep up with others if being supported by a comrade.)

First aid kits have a number of uses.

1) Double the amount of time it takes for a woman to give birth, and slow the amount of essence loss, so that while they aren't gaining essence, they aren't losing it due to the baby leeching off of them.

2) Can be used to make a certain stimulus that restores stamina.

3) Can be used to cure the effects of toxins, like the dreadful aphrodisiac that can turn your comrades against you, and the paralyze toxin that spiders use.

4) And of course, any wounds a character may have received.
