Here's the place to voice questions and concerns, or just talk about the game.
Shortly our PMed test runs will we transfered out here as examples to kick things off.
I know some of you've been reading Hero's story. What do you think of it. The both the zombie scene and the love scene were my first ever erotic writing attempts, so tips would be helpful.
(And yes, I know my spelling isn't perfect :o)

Just a suggestion from my current fight. More melee actions would be nice. Some ideas:
Power hit: Sacrifice accuracy for damage.
Focused Blow: Increase accuracy of strikes, deal less damage.
Total defense: Spend the whole turn defending, maybe get a re-roll on all dodges and take the best.
Yeah, I might implement that. I just swiped the melee system from dark gate, unlike the gun system which is 80% my own work.

Yeah, my summer job involves biking 35 minutes to work and then walking around all day randomly cleaning electronics before biking home. I think my brain may be acting up due to physical fatigue. Still, I feel the strange compulsion to practice mop-fu.

Cannon spiders, lol. Well at least she didn't get egged too.
On a tangent how does experience work for this game?
If you kill them (you didn't, that was just RP), you get XP equal to that monsters HP. 1000 XP gives you five more points to put on your character.
GM's closed for the night. One last update then no more till tommrow. I think I'm quite a generious updater anyway, so :D

Considering the pace we were going I thought you would have run away screaming while your hands pulled large patches of hair out of your head.
Oh, fair warning, tommorrow I'm starting to get busy again, and next week summer classes start, though I only have two times I need to be on campus per week.
Today, some of you might meet NPCs. If you REALLY REALLY REALLY don't want to, tell me now, though I don't know why you wouldn't. This is not a promise you'll all meet some fancy pants character, just that most of you are now far enough to encounter them.
Also, I forgot who all I've asked so far, but if theres something you don't want to happen to your character, send me a message, so I can avoid it before it becomes an issue.
New house rule, incase any of you are expecting. GM closes at 10 pm CST (thats 11 pm EST, 8 pm PST, and 4 am GMT). I'm OCD about scheduals, most of the time, so I thought I'd share
(Seriously, I always leave for class exactly 42 minutes ahead of time, that's how OCD I get :o)

Okay, I just have to stop and... This totally broke my posting stride, I thought I was just getting tired and acting stupid, but I re-read it after a nap, and I still find myself at a loss.
"another monster on the rooftop of a building next to her."
Just how far away IS this building that she's getting a -31 to her attack rolls? If the monster can close the gap in 1 turn, then this monster is either brokenly fast, or you're giving a -1 for every two feet away the monster is...
Or maybe I'm just missing something about the system or where Tab/the monster are in my thread.
25 meters, the gun recoil is 6. 25 meters is about 82 feet. The building isn't quite that far, of corse, but straight line.
The monster you are fighting is a leaper, it can jump like that when outside. So yes, this monster IS just really fast.
As for your chance to hit it, the weapon your gun is based off of has a real life range of 50m. Your character has no training, so the penalty is fine, I feel, though you did have really bad rolls there.
For comparison, someone with even basic training would have had - 19 instead of -31. There will be a chance sometime in the story for Tab to advance one point in mil training, but not for awhile.
Kathy
3rd June 2010, 18:03
A -1 for every meter away? Ouch. Here I thought finding a gun might've been a useful object.
Edit: Faulty calculations, gun rolls are 2d50 not 1d50. Check 2 posts down for proper stats.
Monster has a 35... 1 minimum roll. Gun Recoil is 6. Best roll is 50. So... 36 vs. 44. If the monster is more than 8 meters away, I have 0% hit rate.
ASSUMING the enemy rolls a 1...
At 5 meters away, Tab has a 6% chance to hit. And even at point blank, 0 meters. She's only got a 16% chance to hit. (Military training doesn't apply, as there's no range modifier. So even a 4 point military has this chance to hit.)
If the enemy rolls anything above a 10, then no one in the game can shoot it right now. (80% chance.)
*tosses paperweight in the trash*
Melee it is!
No, best roll is 100 It's 2d50, not 1d50.
Did I screw up the calcs last time?
Kathy
3rd June 2010, 18:15
*checks* I thought I read 1d50... ah. That's what the two numbers were. *retallies*
Yeah. Pretty much guns are still worthless. I'm sticking to melee.
2d50 means 2 to 100 rolls. Average should be around 50 points. At any noteworthy distance (-25 in this case, something an average person can move in 1 round), plus recoil (another -6), Tab's chance to hit, if the enemy rolled a 1... Is about (100 - 36 = 64 vs. 36, or an 28 point gap to-hit)...
So around a 15% chance to hit if the enemy rolls a 1. ... On a roll of 10... Around 7%...
Closing the gap 'helps', but melee is still superior in almost all cases from the current setup, as a +48 vs. +35 defend means Tab has a 13 point advantage on an even-roll. If the enemy rolls anything below a 15, Tab auto-hits.
Alright, though at the range the monster is at now, 5m, you'd be sure to get a few hits. I'll be fair, you got some really crappy roles that turn, no one has misses all shots yet.
If you want a good example of gun combat, check out SomCr's or Hero's stories. Phoenix's practice story had some too, but it isn't posted.
Kathy
3rd June 2010, 18:32
Nah, I just re-tallied with the 2d50 math. I'll stick to melee, thanks. I worked it out in my previous edit, and as you can see, my odds of hitting weren't there. And by the time an enemy is close enough for melee, there's no point in sticking to guns anymore.
Sorry for the confusion on the 1d50 vs 2d50 issue. That was me missing it.
Alright. If you want I can drop a combat manuel for you sometime soon, giving you a +1 to mill score, that reduces the range penalty by 50%.
Kathy
3rd June 2010, 18:45
I don't think that'd really help my situation. If you feel your system works, stick to it. :P
I'm meleeing now though.
Edit: Passingly glanced at one of those threads, not going to bother reading 4 pages, but I see a few successful rolls against an enemy with a +20 base dodge.
Heh, well you do have those darts. I'm going to review the gun system anyway later, there have been a few other suggestions that would really add to it. Is there anything in particular you'd do to change it, specifically?
The part I was drawing attention to was the recent battle on hero's, the enemy dodge is 33 and waves and waves of enemies are getting mowed down. Though, I'll admit, the game would be fun if guns worked all the time, somebody has to lose ;)
Kathy
3rd June 2010, 19:27
Eh, short answer. Your gun system is a bit wide on the variables, and it makes it rough to compare it with standard d20 rolls.
Biggest flaw I see is that military is the only score that affects guns, meaning if you can't hit well at close range (either bad luck or high enemy dodge), then guns are a waste of time entirely, while if the enemy dodge is low enough, it makes guns almost unstoppable with your x6 rolls technique for resolving hits and damage.
A 10 point roll gap can make the difference between 5% chance to hit in some cases, or 20% chance to hit in other cases.
Hmmm, my first forumla had some stats mixed in, though I cut it out because it was getting overly long, and some people were worried about that. I might go back and revisit it soon.

Question: Is there a penalty for getting pregnant?
Depends on what gets you pregnant. Most can be handled RP wise, but
getting pregnant by a very humanoid monster (such as an infected human) is technically benificial. Its just a d28, and if it hits 28, you're pregnant, but with a normal 9 months. It'll be handled post game RP. Plus, you're immune from pregnancy for the rest of the game, atleast in that hole.

Damage (mop, d10, bash)
(4+20)/2 = 12
Why does a bashing weapon deal (D10+str)/2?
Shouldn't it either be d5+str/2 or d10+str/2? I mean, otherwise you get to deal fractional damage half the time.
Yeah, I know. I probably didn't understand the rules when I borrowed them from elsewhere. There's alot of fractions in CG. I just round up allways.
Pheonix Alugere
4th June 2010, 01:31
In dark gate, and as how you wrote it in the rules, it currently says only the strength is divided, not the roll itself.
Melee Damage Types
Bashing: roll+Str/2
Slashing: roll+Str/3
Piercing: roll+Str/4
You may want to change it if you are calculating it as
Melee Damage Types
Bashing: (roll+Str)/2
Slashing: (roll+Str)/3
Piercing: (roll+Str)/4
Yeah, I borrowed that right from DG. I don't know why I got off track, maybe because everything else has ()s. Thanks for pointing that out, I should have been doing that from the start.
So, I've noticed SomCr's story is pretty popular. Out of curiousity, what do people find the most interesting about it, so that I can attempt to spice up the other one's with it.

Hrmph. What do you want to bet that the women "kidnapped" by Colonel White were actually "rescued", and he isn't actually trying to set up a kingdom of his own?
After all, this doesn't make sense:
"Well, you see, while I do want a little personal revenge, and I will have it, I assure you, that's not the only reason you're here. You see, not all the military fled. Theres a good number of them in a building about two and a half kilometers from here. All men for the most part. They want to rebuild society, but need a way to repopulate the planet, see where I'm going with this?"
The CITY might be abandoned. The PLANET isn't. The COUNTRY isn't. Hell, the STATE probably isn't either.
From the descriptions of the barrier, people can walk in, people can walk out. Stuff can be pushed through. Electronics get fried going through it, which prevents radios and vehicles (in particular) from going through, but medicine, food, and basic ammunition can pass. There's indications that radio SIGNALS can pass (sunlight, anyone?), and even if that's not true, all you'd need to do is transfer the communiqué from radio to runner for the passage through the barrier.
Add to that the fact that it's been, oh, probably two days at the outside since the incident began and Plan Black was activated. I daresay that Colonel White is still trying to reconsolidate his troops and hasn't had a spare moment to consider the future, even if he was cut off from higher up.

Have you ever seen 28 Days Later? I'll admit, two days is a bit too soon, but people are batshit insane right now.
Few new rules I'm working on that'll probably be done next week. Critical hits, some regulations for gun use in melee, a bit of adjustment to the gun system in general, and perhaps a battle simulator to help me wade through these massive battles a bit faster.

In addition to the new rules I'm going to be posting soon in the other thread, I'm going to be moving away from showing the rolls. As of right now the rolls are the only way we can determine enemy range, and that's very important for firearm combat as well as enemy and ally placement. If you're not going to show the rolls then I ask that we be given at least a small description to how far off a target is whether friendly or not.

The Alpacalypse
4th August 2010, 01:53
Really? Well, shit, I gotta come up with a background, then. I was expecting to be turned down, to be honest.
Alright, I just have a few questions, then:
1) What would an infantryman...person be doing in the city at this time? Or, at the beginning of the current events, at least. Helping to evacuate civilians? Prepping the staging area for the BFG? Getting mauled to hell? I figure this information could help me formulate some sort of backstory.
2) Might seem obvious, and I'm sure I know the answer, but all PC's are female, yes?
3) A bit ago, you mentioned we should inform you of anything we didn't want happening to our characters. Well, what sorts of things are feasible? Pregnancy? Being skull-fucked? (Literally, mind you, not figuratively.) Being shredded limb from limb in a horrifying orgy of blood and gore? There are a lot of things I wouldn't want to happen to my character, I'd like to eliminate as many of them as possible before addressing the ones which *are* possible.
Hmm, I thought I came up with a fourth one, but I appear to have been mistaken. Ah well.
OAMP
4th August 2010, 02:30
1) The infantry might be doing any of those things, and many more. There was actually an infantrywoman in playtesting, I had her helping the evacuation but then "retreating" when her entire squad (for the most part) got utterly dominated by some squids, then having the driver of the jeep drive off a bridge, as the intro post.
For the most part, the background shouldn't deal with the specific events of the monster attack, I'll handle that in the intro post, as the player cannot be a high enough rank to actually choose where they were assigned in the battle (this can play a role later in the story). Instead focus on what they've done in their career up to this point, what they do in their freetime, etc.
2) If you really want to be male, it can be aranaged.
3) Pretty much anything except guro or loli. Don't get me wrong, horrific injures can occur, but I'll make sure to keep it at a level everyone can handle. Injuries will almost never cross over and effect the erotic side of the game, and vise versa, save "minor" injures like broken wrists to ensure someone does not escape.
On the off chance the PC is the dominent in the scene (probably not many chances for that, and even fewer where torture would be involved), I'd let them do pretty much whatever, as long as it doesn't get too overboard.
(So far I've really only had one case of of a PC being the top in a scene and it was with a friendly NPC, so...)

Okay then, just a few more questions, then I'll post a character sheet
What is the difference (ETA: Or at least the biggest differences) between "Infantry" and "Support"? I guess support is any military role that isn't infantry? Would a tank gunner, for example, be infantry or support?
As infantry, what would the highest rank you'd allow be? Private? Corporal? Sergeant? Major?
Also, I know virtually nothing about the military, let alone the military on this world. You said it was in the future, but is it still on Earth, albeit altered? Or does it even matter?
OAMP
4th August 2010, 23:43
Infantry is basically anyone who'd be found on the front line firing their weapon, doing missions, etc, whereas support would be more like the truck drivers, cooks, radio controller on the base. They get some stat changes, as you probably noticed, and the types of settings they start out in as well as what equipment they'll find right away will be different. Don't fear choosing support, they'll be right in with the action despite their job description, this is a major disaster after all ;)
Also I think I'll allow people to be (offically) ranked up to Major, though lower ranks are way more common. For all practical purposes, this is the US Army in a world where there were never gender barriers with the tech level of 2020. The setting, however, is not Earth. This was done so that people could use any type of name for their character they want and it wouldn't be out of place, as well as to avoid using any real places/brands etc.

Well, the only problems I see right now are that while the background is acceptable, it cannot be known to the general public. The world of Clover Grove has a ton of crazy, but the average Joe on the street doesn't see it.
The other is just the minor issue that the action starts on day one of the incident, but that's easy to miss, you aren't the first to accidentally overwrite that.

Edit; I could, if you preferred, send a few basic bio-ideas to you, and you can pick one out of the list or something that seems most suitable for the setting/rules and I can then edit/expand as needed? That could make it easier for I hope, assuming all that made sense.

Send em if you want. I have a few ideas, but of course I'd go for something you yourself prefer rather then something I completely make up.

Alright... sent them, just checking for your thoughts and input. X3
To be honest it was only in hind-sight that I wanted to edit them but it'll do to say it here; I intended the character ideas to be totally malleable, if any potential start-up path/type seems too powerful or unfitting, feel free to pick it apart.

A little slow right now because I'm writing my term paper, and that really saps my writing ability for anything else. After this week it should be much, much better though.

Sorry it took so long, lots of crap to do in college right now. Term papers, other papers, tons of math, etc x.x

Yeah, so instead of updates recently I've been using a program and try and make my map of the city real good, and well... I've had mixed results. Probably just need a little more practice.

Instead of updates, I wrote a oneshot today. I guess I should sort of apoligze for that, but it is Clover Grove related. You can find it in the blank page if you care to read.

Bah, sorry for the lack of updates guys. First college mid-term week, then a nasty cold, and now the site is so slow I can't really work reasonably. I'll check back every time I have free time and the first time it's moving at a reasonable speed I'll get at least some updates in.

Hey it's ok, isn't your fault. College is rough, but yeah, the sites become slow as hell. 0_e

Just so you know, I'm switching to two day update format. A recent problem with the popularity upswing was finding time to do EVERYONE's at once, my prefered method. However, I think overall I can go faster if I split everyone in half and do some one day and some the other day. In other words, if I didn't update you today, I'll get you tomorrow.
Just an FYI, I'll add it to the rules later. If you shoot at a monster grappling someone (or a similar situation), if you miss the monster, I'll run the same to hit chance calculation on the other entity (using its stats) for the chance to miss and hit them. Same goes for shooting at something in front of another object/person, but with the added range factored in, etc.
Came up for the first time in lurker's story today, but he fortunately hit the monster.
Another important note: I know I'm lagging a bit here, but the graduation festivities are sucking up a lot of time, plus have a small trip planned next week. I'll get everyone else in tommorrow if I can, but am, for once, at a loss for planning my scheduel.
I'm going to go through the list and give some xp boosts in the next few days based on achivements, etc etc. I don't think many will level up, but maybe one or two people will.
As some of you may know, I've been having minor computer troubles. I've backed up all CG related materials though to my external, so no chance of losing any data from here.
Sorry guys, just when I planned to start updating faster some issues sprung up that really don't put me in the mood to write, to put it mildly. I'll try and resume later this week, but IDK.

Just relax. Take your time. The last thing you need when troubled is a bunch of people asking
"When's the next post" to a porn game XD

Heh, well I recently told off a few people on MSN who do that. None of you guys have ever been demanding, and I appreciate that, but some people outside the game are, and sometimes it does get on my nerves
