I thought that it wouldn't hurt to have a topic for discussion/recommendations of fanfiction. Whatever you enjoy or hate, I'd just ask that you warn us if it's young-Riku/Mickey vore-fic or anything like that.

I'll start by mentioning a few that I enjoy, but feel free to use this topic however you wish. It won't say no, just like guys in fanfiction!
-Welcome to City 17 (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4389329/1/Welcome_to_City_17) is a novelization of Half-Life 2, currently up to level 7 (Highway 17). The writing gets a bit boring/repetitive at spots, but I'd blame that on HL2 not having much happening at times.

-Interpolation(s) (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4638153/1/Interpolation) are a set of tiny stories that could sort of fit in gaps in Half-Life 2 and the Episodes. They just add a bit of depth and texture to the HL2 world.

-Forward (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4099993/1/Forward), paraphrasing the author, is a hypothetical Firefly season two, set after the film Serenity. I'll say that it does feel quite like the original Firefly, with the caveats that it riffs on some of Firefly's episode plots a bit too much and that it ret-cons the deaths of Book and Wash.
-The Naked Quidditch Match (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3689325/1/The_Original_Naked_Quidditch_Match), set in the Harry Potter universe, obviously, revolves around a magically binding dare to play the Gryffindor/Slytherin Quidditch game with the Gryffindore team nude. The story is notable to me both because it can be quite funny, and because it's written completely as a series of 'm-mails', magic-based e-mails. This is probably the only one I should warn anyone about, having both nudity and Harry/Ginny relationship content.

-Those Lacking Spines (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2903858/1/) ridicules and satires common trends in the Kingdom Hearts fandom. The story follows Vexen, Xaldin, and Lexaeus as they attempt to restore their fellow Organization members and prevent evil from taking over the universe. A bit of a weak plot, but among the funniest stories that I've ever read, and breaks the fourth wall well.

I'll have to think about what fics I could mention that would be more in-line with this forum's theme.

This is a great thread idea. Unfortunately my fave fics are not something most people here would enjoy :P

Though i think i can find something semi normal somewhere, lols. I'll edit this post after i look through my stuff.

x.x I found nothing that had a pairing people would like, so, i went without one lawls
The Dragonmasters (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/979216/1/The_Dragonmasters)
---AU. Harry Potter disappeared! While the Wizarding world sink into war, Harry is thrown in a whole new world and left to fend for himself. He will have to prove himself worthy of bonding to the long thought dead Magical Dragons and becoming a Dragonmaster.

Severitus challages ftw! Basically there was a challenge issued a while back to make a Severus is Harry's father story, these are my faves: (Note, I'm not very picky except for the fact that everything i read is 100k words or more)

I believe I’ve already mentioned the Pokegirl story ‘...where none have gone before’. I’ve only got ‘Wild horses and Pokegirls’ to add to that, but a lot of the Pokegirl fiction tends to be good. (And, of course, a lot of it isn’t…)

I'm enjoying the hell out of the firefly story. The author has done a marvelous job.

Yeah, I'd add my favorites but I'm not sure if some of them are around any more. I'll have to check my one site. It's about the only one that's got a nice, normal m/f pairing. As you can guess from my own writing, I mostly read yaoi and since I get the feeling that'd not go over well (despite being well written and/or funny in my opinion) I'll just say that I'll share if asked to.

*goes to site* *tries fanlinks* *gets trojan fixed warning from mcaffee* Yeah, I'll have to look elsewhere and see if I can't find that story again. And *sighs* *deletes site from faves* Shame too. Was a really nice story.

What are you talking about, it's impossible to disturb me. Of course I'm even stranger than most people here. Which is quite an accomplishment now that I think about it.

If it's something that you enjoy, I say go ahead and post it. Just maybe mention what you think we'd dislike. And on that note, I forgot that the Firefly story, Forward, has River kissing a girl in one of the chapters. So yeah, if you don't like that sort of thing, don't read it.

Maybe I'll go first, and dig up some of the weird Kingdom Hearts fics that I've seen. Sora/Riku/Kairi with tentacles, for example. Or lion formed Sora/Kairi.

Like Chibi said, you're warned, then, and most of the stories have their own disclaimers at the top, so you know more detail about what you're getting into. Still wish I could find that Seifer x Quistus one. It was really sweet.

One Good Turn (http://destiny.ponderosa121.com/one-good-turn/#more-17) - Cid x Reno. I dunno why I like this one. I just do. I think it's more the imagery.

Fifth Time's a Charm (http://destiny.ponderosa121.com/fifth-times-the-charm/#more-135) - It's an implied Reno and Rufus. There really isn't any "naughty bits" described, more implied and mentioned in passing. I like it cuz it goes more into the character's character.

http://destiny.ponderosa121.com/art-mixed-signals/#more-459 - This one's art. I like it because I actually have a gal friend that I think Reno looks like in this picture including the not so large chest but minus the bit at the waist *laughs* (it's very PG, too, nothing pervy outside the happy trail.)

The site, Destiny Interrupted, has some other stories and art on it, too. Haven't really poked around, but they have a good variety. All listed on the side there, if you follow the links.

The Games We play (http://www.noiresensus.com/ff8/fanfic/thegamesweplay.html) - A smutty m/m/m/m fun story about an interesting game of Truth or Dare staring the boys of FF8

What'cha Gonna do with a Cowboy (http://www.noiresensus.com/ff8/fanfic/whatchagonnadowithacowboy.html) - I *love* this story. Again, it's all four FF8 boys. What I think I like best is the relationship dynamics more than the sex *laughs* My favorite bit comes near the end with Irvine and Seifer.

A Cowboy's Fantasy
Part 1 (http://www.noiresensus.com/ff8/fanfic/acowboysfantasy01.html) (Irvine x Zell)
Part 2 (http://www.noiresensus.com/ff8/fanfic/acowboysfantasy02.html) (Irvine x Seifer)
Part 3 (http://www.noiresensus.com/ff8/fanfic/acowboysfantasy03.html) (Irvine x Squall)

I think it's just Irvine's accent that I like so much with this story. Kinda pwp, but I like it.

The Journey (http://www.noiresensus.com/ff8/fanfic/journey.html) - This one's post-FF8 and also flashback in game. Has Seifer x Squall and Irvine x Squall but I like it more for the character relationships and the different views of game events.

And then it rained (http://www.noiresensus.com/ff8/fanfic/andthenitrained.html) - This one puts the FF8 crew in the real world (Florida). Reading it, I almost can't help but thinking the author's actually talking about something that really happened in their life. It's a very touching story actually and I like it up to the last section where the author feels the need to sum things up in a nice tidy package and assert herself into the story. If it was a fanficing over of real life events, up to and including the end, okay, but if not, the last part seems too...*shrugs* I dunno. It's not Mary Sue-ish, but as I've gotten older, I dislike OC's in fanfics.

For his love (http://www.noiresensus.com/ff8/fanfic/forhislove01.html) - Part one, with links following to the other 19 chapters (they're short). Given that I just spent an hour and a half reading this, I thought it worth sharing. Main pair is Zell x Squall, doesn't get really hot and heavy until Chapter 9 and has the exploration of character relationships that I like a lot, including some Seifer x Quistis.

I've mentioned this one before, but it IS my favorite:
The Least One Can Do (http://www.esnips.com/web/gmwzrdcs05-MyPublicStuff)
-- Ranma 1/2 fanfic, IT'S GOOD. Basically, the author puts another girl into Ranma's life, but this time she's NOT CRAZY PSYCHO; naturally Ranma falls for her. With a new girl in the picture and Ranma's inability to tell other people important things, shit hits the fan and things get serious - this isn't Takahashi's Ranma anymore by the end.

Gentlemen, I must resurrect this thread and present you with a new fanfic series, for to not do so would be a travesty. Currently I've only read most of the original stories, (which make up likely less than 10% of the total fiction, and 2% of the different authors,) but the quality of what I have read cannot be denied. Or perhaps that’s just how I see it. Anyway, I present to you the Protectors of the Plot Continuum!

http://www.misssandman.com/PPC/ppc.html

The basic premise? An organization designed to enter bad (, BAD) fanfic and remove the characters warping the plot, i.e., the Mary Sues. Anyone with an ability to laugh at bad writing errors has the ability to appreciate these stories. Assuming they haven't written any of the stuff getting bashed, of course...

Looks good :3

The Author of Chimera has a sequel to it.

The Author ShenLong1 (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/264296/ShenLong1) is phenomenal. If you like this sort of thing. She does vast amounts of research to make sure she's getting the details right :3 This is all I've been reading on for the past few months actually. Her stories come in three parts and are all very very long.

Because most of the fanfic I read is yaoi and about the only woman people want to write/read about from FF8 is Quistis (or Shiva.)

Also, because Jesus hates you and so do I.

((Nah, seriously, on the site I browse most, the hetero pairings wind up either being mixed with yaoi or all angsty and "deathfic" which, quite honestly, I'd rather read about boys having sex than people dying.))

Unfortunately, you wouldn't know it from the fanfic writers. She tends to be portrayed as the annoying kid little sister or the hyperkinetic ball of endless energy that people either love or hate. The "And then it rained" portrays her well, but most of the other stories I've seen her in, she's either been a pest or "Irvine's girlfriend." Sometimes both. Admittedly, I went the "pest" route somewhat in my one story (that I haven't put up yet. Give me time.) but I kept her role to a minimum until the later portion of it but in "Guardian" I tried to make her sweeter.

Also, I did say "about the only woman," and you've proven that statement true. It's just hard to ignore the chick with the whip and glasses.

Hate to keep bringing it up, but Misadventures of Selphie... none of that is true XD Hell, from what I remember, she spends more time getting pounded by GF's than she does around Irvine.

It isn't just FF8, of course. Fanfic writers do those sorts of things to female characters quite often. It's rather irritating, to me at least, especially yaoi is not my favorite cup of tea and I quite enjoy Kingdom Hearts. That fandom is frightening at times.

Yeah, sometimes that stuff scares the hell outta me O.o

I really need to get FF8 and quit mooching off my cousin when he comes around, don't I... >.<
From what I've played, though, it's not hard to see why Selphie is portrayed as she is in most fanfictions she's in. That said, I would like to see more fanfiction with her shown in a better light.

Chibi... how can you say that and only use a small amount of examples. There are plenty of female characters I like in games/anime/books.

Rubi Malone, Tarantula of Wet. (I absolutely love Rubi's character).
Zelda from Ocarina of Time. Kerrigan in Starcraft. I like Lt. Dare from Halo 3 ODST. Miranda Keyes from Halo 2 and 3. Zoey from Left 4 Dead. Jenny from The Darkness. Rayne from Bloodrayne. Leliana, Morrigan, and Aurora from Dragon Age: Origins. The women of Assassin's Creed II. Yep, all the main female characters. Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, Sheva, and others from the Resident Evil series. Anya from Gears of War. Jennifer Mui from Mercenaries 1/2, and Shepard from Mass Effect (depending on the player's choice. Amusingly enough played by Jennifer Hale who played Jennifer Mui). There are more female video game characters I like.

In anime. Claire, Teresa and many others from the Claymore series, Blue from Wolf's Rain, the vampire from Blood. I could go on, and start approaching the books part of your comment, but I shall not.

There are many, many women out there in cannon who are not annoying, and who can work great in pairings. Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield has been hinted at so god damn much in the games.

Jak and Daxter, Keira. her know it all personality and voice.
Kairi Kingdom hearts, useless in both games. USELESS.
Winry. She serves the same function as Ginny, only with some comic relief, she has NO development in the anime. Manga is a different story. Waaayyyy different.
Princess Peach. Useless love interest. Save your goddamn self.
The new chick in Twilight princess who serves the same purpose as Saria in previous: SAVE YOURSELF. Don't wait for the Goddamn HERO to do it for you. Worthless.

Pretty much every useless pretty girl that needs to be saved.

I love how with Dissidia being released, there's a whole new mix of pairings that have become "canon." And screw that scream. Auron's hot for an older guy. I just hate how they make Tidus look like he's 12 whenever they pair him with him. Now Cloud x Auron, I'd read that.

Speaking of Auron. There needs to be more Rikku x Auron.

There was a fantastic Aurikku (or however they spell it) on the site "Final Fantasy Loveshack," which, sadly, does not exist any longer. (This is why I've taken to stealing fanfics and saving them on my computer. If anyone can find an active link for them for me, I luv you forever.) It was not only lengthy (spanning the scope of the game), but it explained why monsters had gold and random crap that you got off of them after fights, had great interaction between the characters, and had an ending that made me cry almost as much as the real game did. I have seen a few Auron x Rikku doujinshi but they're not a prevalient as some of the other stuff. Again, in the case of female characters getting left behind, Yuna and Lulu tend to get paired up more often than Rikku does. Although I've also seen Rikku x Gippal from FFX2.

Chibi... how can you say that and only use a small amount of examples.

Continuing off that list, you has Meru, Shana, and Rose from Legend of Dragoon, Kairi, Namin'e, and Xion from KH, Nova (r.i.p.) from SC Ghost.... ya, can't say all female characters are suck.

So Chibs doesn't know most of the good female characters out there... wowza. Also, Zelda from the Ocarina of Time version of the series was not captured. She was running around as Shiek (sp?) and helping Link out.

Behind the tag: Rubi Malone in her glory!

It's unfortunate Chibi that you have yet to see so very many of those great characters I've listed. Kerrigan really comes to mind. A hero, turned villain, who was beating the good guys at the end of the game.

And indeed, thank you Lurker. I have not seen every game, anime or book out there. There are plenty of good female characters that I don't know of.

Helping? Teaching a song or two and then poofing when the going got rough.

Shiek Zelda was just about as useless as her normally.

All of those games you listed never interested me anyway. I go for the epic storylines, the fantasy... most of those you listed are the shoot things, kinda games. and I really don't like those.

however there are plenty of female actresses that get my attention. Angelina Jolie for one. She IMMERSES herself in her characters. She literally becomes them, and mentioned in an interview that she has to go home every night and figure out who she is.

EDIT: one from a game i really enjoy is Ashelin Praxis. God bless the jak and daxter series of games. And Tess. Tess makes me happy too.

EDIT again: Let me explain a bit by saying that slash fanfiction that turns cool women into whining conniving bitches irritates me. What makes me happiest is when they stay cool... and are super supportive of their gay best friend. :3

Dragon Age: Origins is an epic storyline, and a fantasy. Mass Effect also had some great female characters (I loved Tali so much), and is an epic storyline as well. But just because you are not interested in those games, doesn't mean you can dismiss pretty much all female video game characters as horrible and annoying when you haven't even glanced at most of them because the game doesn't interest you.

I'm not saying play games that don't interest you either.

Also, Angelina Jolie is okay. I've actually come to quite like Rhona Mitra, even though her first role ever was simply to show boob. Eva Green was great in Kingdom of Heaven. Milla Jovovich in the Messenger. There's plenty of good actresses out there, with plenty of good characters.

And yes Tassadar I liked Miranda Keyes. I though she was a pretty good character. I know most people don't like her.

anyway, Most of the fanfiction I read end up with me liking the female characters... because fanfiction writers tend to write them better than the series xD At least the ones i read, and I'm pretty picky when it comes to characterization.

Also, Sinful, you mention an 'Aurora' from dragon age, which character is that? Do you mean the main character, or some non-party character?

Minda from Twilight Princess, Juhani, Mission, (kind of) Bastila from KOTOR, Alyx from Half-Life 2, Movies? Leeloo from Fifth Element; Zoe, Inara, River, (again, kind of) Kaylee from Firefly/Serenity. Books. Lyra from His Dark Materials, both Rolands and Harcourt from the Temeraire series, Door from Neverwhere, Anathema, Agnes, and Pepper from Good Omens. Among countless other that I've missed. My brain isn't working quite right directly after a final exam.

~Kingdom Hearts - Kairi
She's useless, period. Her purpose is to sit there and be the typical tits that the main hero has to save (if you believe Sora is straight, mind you... the amount of Sora/Riku fanfics is scary, though I saw it coming as soon as I got halfway through the 'tutorial' part of the first game...). About the only useful thing she does is return Sora to his normal form in KH1, and if it wasn't her, they woulda had someone else do it.
That said, I'd have to run through the games again to be sure.

~Bleach
As far as Orihime goes, she started out not so good, but she's gotten a bit better. At least she has the whole 'I reject your reality and substitute my own - one where there is no wound' thing going on.

Rukia... I have mixed feelings about. On the one hand, she IS a Shinigami... on the other hand, from what I can remember without going back and reading EVERYTHING to double check, she gets her ass handed to her 9 out of 10 times and typically has to be saved by Ichigo/Renji.

~The Spartans
Yeah, I haven't read all the books, but from what I have read, there were a few female Spartans. The problem is they all got asploded with the planet except for Master Chief, a.k.a. John-117, since he was, as we know from the game, on a boa- err, ship.

~'Tales of' Series
What are your thoughts on the girls from the 'Tales' series of games? Personally, I like Sheena from Symphonia and Norma from Legendia. Sheena has that 'never quit' attitude, and Norma... well... is Norma; even if she did get annoyed by Senel, she stuck with him when the others simply said 'fuck you' (yeah they had a point, but really, telling him to wait? fuckers.)

Actually, around 7-8 of them survived the fall of Reach, although 'survived' is an interesting term to apply to Linda who was in a coma with bad injuries. She was in the cryostasis pod next to the master chief's and he actually managed to recover her cryostasis pod intact after he blew up Halo.

Actually if you read the books they find a female spartan frozen in a sleeper pod between Halo and Halo 2. She just doesn't make an appearance in the games i think.

But yeah, in the other books you find out more survived the Glassing of Reach, because the planet wasn't fully glassed. There was something the Covenant was looking for so they kept part of the planet alive.

But yeah, female Spartans ftw.

Eh, she gets a bit better in KH2. Still gets kidnapped, but gets a bit better. As for her in KH, I wouldn't deem her useless so much as, I dunno how to describe it. Underplayed might be a better term for it. Yes, she gets kidnapped, but she's also a kid. She's not some princess under the protection of a squad of guards, she's got miminal (at best) fighting training. She's...a plot device. She is one of the people Sora searches for because she's important to him. He's trying just as hard to find Riku because, in the beginning, he thinks that Riku needs rescued to. The reason Kairi doesn't get limelight is because the story is about Sora and his opposition with Riku, the whole light and darkness thing. She's there to be his beacon, a driving force for him. From a writing/story perspective, I don't see that as useless, but that could just be me.

Sinfulwolf
17th December 2009, 13:15

Anyway, from a fanfiction perspective, I enjoy female Characters when they're supportive of their Gay best friends, even if they are disappointed about it. Turning them into bitches for the sake of a plot device makes me close the story.

With the exception of Relena. She's batshit insane to begin with, so making her the crazy stalker "There's no way Heero can be gay, we're practically already married, it's fate!" character makes for good times.

Mmmm. 50 ways to kill Relena.

About the Kairi debate, personally, methinks that with a bit of training- or even just minimal training- and the right incentive, Kairi could be just as Sora as a protagonist. Copper said what I would have said, had I not left for a day. Anyway, yeah. I'd say that Kairi simply isn't given the opportunity in either game, really, to shine. I would argue that she gets quite a bit better in II. I mean, she goes off on her own to find Sora and Riku, escapes from her cell with Namine's help, is ready to fight off Saix, jumps off a thirty-foot ledge to help Sora, and gets a Keyblade and helps Riku fight Heartless. If anything, I'd blame Japan's cultural attitudes rather than the character being useless.

As far as shipping goes, I've always been a fan of a threesome for those KH. I mean, the concept of a trinity is a major sub-theme in the series anyway...

Morso then you think. Technically, Sora, Kairi, and Riku's names each are the japenese names for certain elements. (Sky, Sea, and Land)

Now, moving on to the Birth by Sleep trio, Terra, Aqua, and Ventus, the same elemental connection carries on from Sora's group to Terra's group. (Earth, Water, and Wind)

Purposeful connection? In my KH? It's more likely then you think.

According to the wiki entry on Xion:
Xion's name was coined by Tomoco Kanemaki, one of Days's scenario writers. Tetsuya Nomura took a liking to it and notes that it has many meanings.

There's no aditional info on Roxas's name, though that's because his is form like the other Orginization members as a anagram of the original name, plus X. Same is done with other orginization members (Xemnas=Ansem, as that's what he was going by when they were created, Axel=Lea, Roxas=Sora, etc.)

But girls don't play video games, let alone role-playing games, so having a strong female protagonist for them to relate to (who might even actually get a romantic storyline with a guy that's not a complete and utter tool) would be a stupid marketing concept. *sound of sarcasm meter exploding*

I loved the Jackie Chan fight in 5, and personally, I thought seeing the Aeon's kick ass was amazing (though I don't think Bahamut should have gone down as easily as it seemed to, but then, I'm sure I could also find ways to justify it). Was so *not* expecting that end to 4. Rather a "Holy shit!" moment for me but in a good way.

The only thing that bums me about it is that he does about one a year and premieres them at Anime Boston and AX. Worth waiting for but I don't think I can live up to my comment of "If good things come to those who wait, this will have me patient as a stone." *laughs*

((Unrelated note: total deja vu moment just then. Don't ask me why, but just happened.))

It seems that I'm the only one that is glad the Hitomi kicked Tifa's ass. Tifa was munchkin the shit out of everything, and it annoyed me how often she used magic. I actually counted it, and including the credits and intro for the two episodes she had materia, and excluding the one she used when she first entered, she was using magic 2.5 times a minute, on average.

I read a Halo fanfic once about a Sniper team in New Mombassa who had to fight through a city block thick with Covenant... they got killed in the end.

Wait, that's nothing like what you folks are talking about.

So? When do we ever keep to one topic? This is us. You're talking about fanfiction, it's the fanfiction thread.

Reading about Goldstein's KH one reminds me I should repost my KH ones. Maybe I'll do that tonight if I don't get too distracted.

So, widespread media coverage of one of Marvel's first man-on-man liplocks pulled me back into reading X-Factor again. Like many fans, even from back in the X-Force days, we knew what the hell was going on between Rictor and Shatterstar even if the comics didn't go there (though apparently a few of the writers *wanted* to. It's all in a bunch of articles all about it on the net.) And since I like my boykissing and I like those two, and I have been waiting, oh, christ, how long has it been? 2009...college...hell, high school...we'll say a LONG ASS TIME for this to happen, I decided to see what other people thought about it.

Now, most of these were written before their being a couple was canon, but I still like them. Mostly it's because I like relationship development stories as much as I like smut.

Shattering the Earth (http://www.shatteringtheearth.com/fanfic.html) This is the fanfic portion of the website, but it also has links on the side to more about the articles covering the story, talks with the writers, and background info for those unfamiliar with the characters.

Touching (http://tentative.net/JBMcDragon/library/xmansion/contact/touching.html), Touching can't hurt (http://tentative.net/JBMcDragon/library/xmansion/contact/touchingcanthurt.html), and The Therapy Thing (http://tentative.net/JBMcDragon/library/xmansion/contact/thetherapything.html) - A trilogy that made me laugh from the get go and throughout, not to mention some really enjoyable reading. Disclaimers at the beginning.

Tag. You are the one. (http://naiveprophet.livejournal.com/127131.html) - One shot smut, but nice writing.

Love never lies (http://community.livejournal.com/x_slash/150201.html) - Just read part 1 of this and I like it already. Feeling lazy and if you want to read more, just use the SE links.

Hot summer
nights (http://twbasketcase.insanejournal.com/2472.html#cutid1) - This one's not on SE. Found it surfing. Liked it.

May link to more, or at least just list the ones I like as I continue to read. If you read and like, score. If you read and don't like, ah well. And if you don't read, well, not much I can do about that.

*Goes off to find more smut*

Don't you love it when fanfiction is surprisingly Canon? *Points to all the Severus loves Lily fanfiction that started showing up around book 3*

Technically, if you read the articles, it was canon almost from the get go, they just didn't/couldn't publish it. I'm kind of glad we're starting to get past the fact that comic books aren't just for kids and people can actually handle *gasp**shock* MATURE subject matter in their books. It's there, it happens. For the longest time, likely since I was old enough to be aware of it, I've seen the mutant situation as a parallel to the situations of same-sex couples. Mutie = Gay; Legacy Virus = AIDS. There was one old X-Factor where a young mutant is showing off his powers in the park and a bunch of mutant haters beat the living shit out of him and I remember thinking "Y'know, change one little word around and you're making a parallel of society." I think Ian McCellum (sp) even talks about it in an interview on the first X-men movie.

Sorry *sits down on the soap box instead of standing on it* Not really trying to rant or make this a big debate/discussion, just getting some thoughts out of my head. One of these days, when our attic isn't frigging negative temperatures, I'm going to have to camp up there for a week and a half and read and sort through my comics again and see all the back issues/graphic novels that I'm going to have to get. I know I'm missing a lot of the crossover stuff and given how much I enjoyed the books back in the day and I'm coming to enjoy them now, I really want to get into them again. *pauses* Shhh. Hear that? It's the sound of my bank account weeping *laughs*

Now if only people can do the same for animation. There's only so many times that Heavy Metal (and 2000) and Black Freighter can be watched before they get old.

Speaking of comics, I just read the most recent "The Walking Dead" trade paper back. Damn, what a demented twisted storyline. The series really is about the fall of humanity rather than the rise of the zombies. Where else will you read about a pregnant woman getting shot through the stomach, killing her and her unborn child in front of her husband and son. And its not handled with the idea of "ha we shocked you with that didn't we!", but is actually written in a mature fashion.

The characters have all been put through so very much, have changed so very much, and the choices they have to face each and every issue is startling. No true black and white moral choices like most video games present. More along the lines of "This child just carved up another kid without really knowing what he did. Way back when we would have put him into therapy and shoved him into some detention centers, but now we don't have this choice, so do we keep him along, or do we kill him?" is just one. While to the reader the choice may or may not be obvious, to the folks who are actually facing down killing this ten year old boy, it's something a little harder, especially with the parents who are totally against such a thing.

After reading the series I knew comics had truly come into their own with mature subject matter, and that people can not only handle it in a medium once thought for children, but actually quite enjoy it.

The main character is basically the son of that universe's Superman (Omni-man is his name), who leads a normal life as a high school/college student til he starts developing powers of his own, and thus the tale starts! I won't really tell all that much, since shit hitting the fan isn't that rare of an event.

Prince of the Dark Kingdom (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3766574/1/Prince_of_the_Dark_Kingdom) It's interesting. Harry's Family was out of the country, living in Germany, when Voldemort took over Britain. Reads it! I won't spoil the pairing...

The way the social structure is set up is awesome. It explains everything, so just reads it :3

TODAY'S MSN FANFICTION, AS DICTATED BY ME TO SOMEONE

Harry: YOUR PLAYSTATION IS SUCH A PIECE OF SHIT DUDLY JKLASDJKLKAJSSLKDLKA *goes away to school where they live in a fucking stone castle that probably has shitty property value*

That happens in the lost book, 'Harry Potter and the Mystery of Hogwart's Plumbing Issues'.

Harry's magic career ends up falling through following the worldwide recession, and he ends up going to a trade school. Eventually he ends up evaluating the cost of Hogwarts itself, due the immense size of it calling for someone who has been there before.

And Draco Malfoy? Insurance Agent for A.I.G.

Voldemort also ends up as CEO of Goldman Sachs, having finally reached the final form on his path to becoming the ultimate evil.

At the end of the story, Hogwarts ends up being repossessed, and Hedwig along with all the other magical creatures are liquidated as the property tax is paid off.

Hagrid ends up becoming a janitor in London, only to be found molesting children at a local library.

Hedwig ends up as museum fixture, and Hermoine finds herself as a seamstress in the local stuffed animal factory, toiling away until her untimely death at the age of 31, due to inhaling asbestos over a period of seven years working there.

Ron goes insane and ends up mailing anthrax to each member of Parliment in an attempt to 'Repeal the Nightly Lemon Tax of 1778'. He is shot and detained by police after an intense 13 hour stand-off outside his house. He is not heard from again after this incident.

THE END.

Holy crap necro. But it is for a good cause.

I recently began reading a Pokemon fanfic called The Sun Soul. While I thought the name alone was kinda goofy, as the anime itself was, I was dead wrong. The whole fanfic is centered around a kind of realism that pokemon has never seen. It focuses on several aspects that you would encounter on an "Adventure in the wilderness." in real life.

And let's not forget the detail. The gorey, juicy detail. The author goes into detail often about exactly where the pokemon/person is being hurt, which adds more to the realism that normal fans would never expect to see in regular pokemon.

All in all, I give it an 8 out of 10, as the author has spelling grammar issues that are a pet peeve of mine.
